Buried in Back Creek Cemetery in Grant Co, IN ( the inscription on his tombstone says he died on Nov 4, 1893 aged 72 y 5m 28 d.) married Mary ROBERTS, the dau of Hannah JOHNSON and Walter ROBERTS. Mary was born July 15, 1818 in Wayne Co, IN and died on July 7, 1906 in Fairmount, IN. ( the inscription on her toombstone says she died July 25, 1907) They were married on April 23, 1846 in Dover Mtg House, Wayne Co, IN
They were the parents of nine children

Elihu was 26 years of age and Hattie was 20 years of age. They were the parents of 11 children.

Death of Milton WINSLOW

Milton WINSLOW, one of Fairmount's oldest citizens, died Tuesday at his home in this little Quaker city. He had not been sick long, and his death came unexpectedly to a large number of relatives and friends. He was a man of culture and refinement, and had great literary tastes. He published a volume of his poems in 1891, entitled "POEMS FOR EVERYBODY'. He was seventy-three years of age.

Ten days after celebrating her eighty-ninth birthday Aunt Mary WINSLOW peacefully passed to the Great Beyond. She had not been feeling as well as usual for a week but her case was not considered serious until Thursday afternoon, just before her death. Aunt Mary WINSLOW was one of the best known and most beloved women of Fairmount. She was born in Wayne County, Indiana, near Richmond on July 15, 1818. In 1846 she was married to Milton WINSLOW and removed to Grant Co (IN) in 1847.
Five sons survive her:
Thomas WINSLOW of this city; Milton WINSLOW of Elwood, NE; Wilson WINSLOW of Ellen Creek, NE; Elihu WINSLOW of LaSalle, CO; and Charles WINSLOW of Sitego, KS

Milton WINSLOW, farmer and prominent minister of the Society of Friends, was born in Randolph County, NC May 21, 1821, and died at his home in Fairmount Nov 15, 1893. His parents were Thomas and Nancy ( NIXON) WINSLOW, who came to Fairmount Township in 1836, when Milton was fifteen years old. He was educated in the common schools of North Carolina and Indiana. He helped his father during the summer season to clear the farm and take care of the crops. With the exception of three years he lived in Wayne County and two years spent in Michigan, his entire life , after he came with his parents in 1836, was passed in Fairmount Township.He cast his first Presidential vote in 1844 for Henry Clay, the Whig Candidate. In 1856 he supported Gen. John C. Fremont, and continued to affiliate with the Republican party until 1884, when he identified himself with the Prohibitionists and he remained loyal to this party until his death. He was a birthright member of the Society of Friends. On April 23, 1846, he was married at Dover, in Wayne County, Ind. to Miss Mary ROBERTS, daughter of Walter and Hannah (JOHNSON) ROBERTS who had emigrated to Indiana from a Quaker settlement in South Carolina. Mary ROBERTS WINSLOW was born July 15, 1818 and died July 20, 1906 at her home in Fairmount. On August 2, 1847, Walter and Hannah ROBERTS deeded their daughter eighty acres of land in Grant County.Milton WINSLOW was a man of superior attainments. Not only did he preach the Gospel with power and eloquence, but he possessed literary ability of high order. In 1892 he issued a volume of poems entitled "POEMS FOR EVERYBODY' which had a large circulation and wide popularity.

Sarah BALDWIN in 1845 rode horseback from Fairmount to Richmond to attend Indiana Yearly Meeting of Friends. The route was south to Alexandria, then to Middleton, New Castle and Richmond. On this journey she was accompanied by her father, Nathan MORRIS, and Milton WINSLOW was along part of the time. WINSLOW was on his way to Wayne County to see his best girl, Mary ROBERTS, who later became his wife, and the mother of Thomas WINSLOW, now living on a farm three miles northeast of Fairmount.

2. Millicent N. WINSLOW b March 2, 1823 in Back Creek, Randolph Co, NC married Isaac STANFIELD on March 21, 1839 in Back Creek Mtg House, Fairmount, IN

3. Emily Ann WINSLOW b. Dec 30, 1824 in Back Creek, Randolph Co, NC Emily died on June 22, 1833 and is buried in North Carolina.

4. Lyda WINSLOW b. April 11, 1827 in Back Creek Randolph Co., NC

5. Nixon WINSLOW b. June 28, 1831 in Randolph Co, NC married Cynthian DAY who was born in 1832 in Ohio
