ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Wendy Wilson Fall is a social anthropologist who has traveled to Madagascar as well as to many countries in West, East and Southern Africa. Currently she is living with her family in Senegal, West Africa. Wilson-Fall continues to work on her research concerning African Americans who have ancestors from Madagascar. This research focuses primarily on families whose forebears arrived during the antebellum period (before the Civil War)to Virginia and Maryland. Mrs. Fall is currently the Director of the West African Research Center. Other research interests include pastoralism, nomadic and semi-nomadic livestock herders in Africa, and natural resource management.

This is a picture of my son and I during our visit to the Queen's Summer Palace, near Antananarivo (Tananarive), the capital of Madagascar. This palace was built in the 19th century. The photo dates from 1990.
