Daniel was the son of Boon E. Laybourn and Clarissa W. Ash, of Indiana and New Hampshire, respectively.  Daniel was born in Marshall County, Indiana, and came with his widowed mother and six of his siblings (there were twelve children born to Boon and Clarissa) to Hancock County in 1875.  He married Abbie Swisher of LaHarpe on October 7, 1890; she survived him.  Daniel and his only child, Emily, share a tombstone at Webster Cemetery.

(excerpted from Chat's column)

SEPT. 28.- Died, Sept. 26th, Emilee C., infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Laybourne, aged two months and 26 days.  Funeral services conducted by Rev. Bruce on Sabbath at 2:30 p.m.
This sweet little bud of babyism had been a constant sufferer for weeks past; but about two weeks ago was taken with the whooping cough which caused her death.  Sweet in life, she was even sweeter in death, and the grief-stricken parents may be comforted only by the language of the text, "Of such is the Kingdom of Heaven."

"Then the azure eyes grew dimmer,
Lower sank the baby head,
With a smile that was angelic
And the budding rose was dead."

Later in the column: Miss Bertha Swisher, of LaHarpe, is staying a few days with her sister, Mrs. Abbie Laybourne.
