Norman Hobart and Ura Eaton Holliday were among the very early settlers in the southwestern portion of Illinois.  According to a biography of their eldest son, Isaac Newton Hobart, Norman came to Illinois from New York in 1833, lived in the Rushville area, married Ura there and subsequently came to what was later named Fountain Green Township.  They remained for one year, then moved to Carthage Township.

The inherent hardship of pioneer life was increased a hundred fold by the early loss of many of their fourteen children, not all of whom can be documented.  At least seven of the children were laid to rest at Webster Cemetery.

The above inscriptions were read by Warren Van Dine in the fall of 1965, with initial assistance from Allen Geddes.  He encountered the usual difficulties resulting from weathering.

John S. - this marker was very weathered, age at time of death was hard to make out.  It does fairly jibe with John's age as shown in the 1850 and 1860 censuses.  Epitaph: Suffer little children to come unto me and forbid them not for such is the kingdom of heaven.

Rachel - this inscription was read as Died Mar. 29, 1856, aged 5 Yrs. 2 Ms. 21 Ds., which calculates to January 8, 1851.  Rachel was counted in the 1850 census.  Epitaph: Little graves are the footprints of angels.

The other epitaphs were read as follows:

Sarah - For such is the kingdom of heaven.

George W. - Suffer little children to come unto me.

Antainette - Gone but not forgotten.
