, born in 1839, married Lydia Jane Dunham on November 29, 1866, in Hancock County, Illinois.  They established their home in Fountain Green Township and became the parents of fifteen children.  In the 1900 Federal Census, A. J. was not listed with his family; he may have been counted in the Fountain Green Township household of "Oston and Eva Hamel", but the entry bears no given name and the details are off enough that positive identification is not possible.

A. J. died at Carthage on October 29, 1904, and was buried at Webster Cemetery in Fountain Green Township.

Lydia J. Dunham was born August 21, 1849, in Hancock County, Illinois, the daughter of Christopher A. Dunham and Harriet Hobart.  Christopher either died or left the area when Lydia was an infant.  When Lydia was almost 7, Harriet married Watson Fabun (also found as Faburn).  Lydia was named as Lydia Fabun or Faburn in the obituaries of several of her children.

A. J. & Lydia's children were:

i. Ida Antoinette "Nettie" Hasten, born about 1867.  She married George N. Labourn on August 13, 1884, at Fountain Green, Hancock County.  Ida died before June 1, 1900, burial at Webster Cemetery.

ii. Charles Hasten, also named as Moses, born about 1870, apparently did not survive childhood.

iii. George Hasten, born in 1871, died June 9, 1891, in Fountain Green Township.  He was buried at Webster Cemetery.

iv. Edsall "Eddie" Hasten, born about 1872, died before July 3, 1913.

v. William Wallace Hasten, born March 23, 1873, died June 2, 1933, in Iowa City, Iowa, burial at Webster Cemetery.

vi. Scott Hasten, born about 1875, died after July 3, 1913.

vii. Mary Florence Hasten, born October 9, 1876, died at April 17, 1960, at Carthage, Hancock County, interment at Moss Ridge Cemetery in Carthage.  Mary Florence married Isaac Newton Hobart Jr., on December 29, 1900.  He and Mary Florence were second cousins, once removed, through the Hobart line.

viii. Morris Hasten, born February 13, 1878.  He died January 17, 1932, in Fountain Green Township, burial at Webster Cemetery.

ix. Frank Hasten, born October 11, 1879.  He died August 26, 1969, at Burlington, Iowa, and was buried at Webster Cemetery.

x. Joseph Wilson Hasten, born July 4, 1881.

xi. Malinda "Linda" Jane Hasten, born in 1882.  She married John L. Miller about 1902, died after June 14, 1938.

xii. Ross Hasten, exact birth and death dates undetermined, he died before June 1, 1900.

xiii. Carlin "Carl" Hobart Hasten, born October 14, 1886, died April 28, 1960.  He was buried at McConnell Geddes Cemetery in Fountain Green Township.

xiv. Hugh Eethel Hasten, born May 25, 1889.  He died August 8, 1959, burial at Webster Cemetery.

xv. Seth B. Hasten, born October 18, 1891.  He died November 26, 1932, at Aimosa, Iowa, and was buried at Webster Cemetery.
