| Edmond S. Sammons, son of Edmond married Mary Sennett on July 9, 1884, at Macomb, McDonough County Illinois. On the Board of Health document that accompanied their marriage license, the signature reads E. Mary Sennett; it is unclear whether or not Mary actually signed the document herself. Born in New York about 1866, she was the daughter of John and Anna Sennett, both of whom immigrated to the United States from Ireland. Also from the Board of Health document, Anna Sennett's maiden name was recorded as Monihan. On the Board of Health document for Mary's sister, Catharine, Anna's maiden name looks like Mulliha_?_. Mary died on June 2 or 3, 1903, leaving Ed with five young children to raise. Ed was a remarkably good storyteller, a faculty he inherited from his father. He never drew on his imagination for material; he observed and remembered the amusing and strange incidents of a lifetime. He was an artist at relating them. Ed may have enjoyed telling the following story to those who gathered at the Weakley store for a chaw and a visit. After the Sammons daughters were married and had their own homes, they still periodically went to their widowed father's house to cook and clean for him. As in most kitchens of that era, they kept a can of drippings at the back of the stove. One day, by accident, one of the daughters grabbed a tin of soap instead of the drippings and poured some into the food she was preparing. Ed sat down to his meal. What happened then? "Well," the daughter later related, dryly, "Pappy always ate like a hog....." There was some wild racing around the room, with Ed hollering, "I've been pizened!! Pizened!!" The children of Edmond Sammons and Mary Sennett were:
