CLARENCE M. REYNOLDS ca. 1856-1930
LOUISA L. ROBERTS ca. 1858-1928

Louisa L. Roberts, daughter of James Esmon Roberts and Nancy Shipley, was born in or near Fountain Green, Hancock County, Illinois, about 1858.  In the 1860 Illinois Census, she was named as Eliza; in 1870, Louisa; in 1880, Eliza; in 1900, Louisa or Louise; in 1910, Louisa; in 1920, Eliza.

She married Clarence M. Reynolds on May 5, 1878, at Fountain Green. Marriage documents show both Louisa L. and Eliza; she signed her name as Louisa L. Reynolds.
Marriage Documents

Clarence M. Reynolds was the son of Reuben C. Reynolds and Mary M. Yetter.  He was born about 1856 in Payson, Adams County, Illinois.

In 1900, but not in 1910, Louisa reported she was the mother of one child, deceased.  An "infant of Clarence Reynolds" was buried at the Roberts Family Cemetery.

An outline map of Oklahoma, illustrating the location of Woods, Major and Garfield Counties.Sometime between 1880 and 1900 Clarence and Louisa relocated to Oklahoma, where they apparently spent the rest of their lives.  In 1900 they were counted in Woods County; 1910 and 1920, Major County.

There is tentative evidence that Louisa died in December of 1928, that Clarence died in August of 1930, and that both are buried in Enid Cemetery, Enid, Garfield County (indicated by G on the map at right), Oklahoma.

Regarding Calvin and Mabel Miller, listed as nephew and niece in the census of 1910, we have not been able to establish any kind of blood relationship.  These two children were, we believe, living with their parents in Belmont County, Ohio, in 1900.  Nancy Roberts' obituary reported that Louisa was a resident of Ohio in 1901, but the named town, Alveretta, was/is non-existent, as best we can determine.  There is a town named Alva in Woods County, Oklahoma, where Clarence and Louisa were farming in 1900.  From Wikipedia, "Alva was established in 1893 as a land office for the Cherokee Outlet land run, the largest of the land rushes that settled western and central Oklahoma." Also, it's a bit of a stretch to believe that Louisa and Clarence were in Oklahoma in 1900, Ohio in 1901, and back in Oklahoma in 1910.  It appears that the relationship between Clarence, Louisa and Mabel was, perhaps, adoptive, or, perhaps, what could be described as a relationship of the heart: in 1920, Clarence and Louisa were listed as father-in-law and mother-in-law in the Orval Allspach home.
