Nancy M. Wright was born on July 4, 1839, in the township of Hancock County, Illinois, which would be named Fountain Green Township in 1850.  She was the youngest daughter of Basil and Nancy Wright.

In the mid-1850s Nancy married Presley Martin, son of Charles and Nancy Martin.

Presley was born about 1836 in Illinois, probably McDonough County.  The following details of his military service during the Civil War are from the Muster and Descriptive Rolls compiled by the Illinois Adjutant General's Office.  It must be noted that there are several odd entries (indicated by the asterisks), perhaps errors by the original preparer or transcription errors:

The 1921 Scofield biography of his son, Charles, also referred to Presley's military service.  In fact, we may be able to explain the curious Nativity entry: two other local men, Carter E. Alton and Marcus Alton, were signed up on the same day by T. J. Campell.  Their records also show Freedom, New York, as their birthplace.  It's our thinking that perhaps the these young men were standing in line together and T. J. absentmindedly entered the incorrect birth location for Presley.  Or maybe the error occurred when initial forms, hurriedly prepared, were later transcribed.  Regardless, it's highly unlikely that the record was for another man named Presley/Pressly Martin from the Fountain Green area.

Presley, his parents and other members of the Martin family are buried at South Cemetery in Hire Township, just south of Blandinsville, McDonough County.  The inscription, partially deteriorated, has been read as "Presley Martin, Died Oct. 5, 1863, Age 26 Ys. __Ms. __Ds., Corp. Co. A. 118th Ill. Inf."

Nancy and Presley were the parents of two children:

i. Charles R. Martin, born December 6, 1858 or '59.  He died September 16, 1934, at Carthage, Hancock County, burial at Moss Ridge Cemetery.

ii. Diana Martin, born about 1856.  Named as Mandana in the 1860 Federal Census.  It appears she married first Robert Johnson about March 5, 1874.  In the 1921 Scofield biography of her brother, she was named as Diana, Mrs. Charles H. Sawyer of Clinton, Missouri.  We have not been able to confirm her whereabouts after the 1860 Federal Census.

Nancy married Jonathan D. DeHaven about December 23, 1866.  He was born November 19, 1835, in Illinois, the son of Othias DeHaven and Sarah Boston.  Nancy's elder sister, Martha, married Jonathan's elder brother, Robert.

Nancy and Jonathan's children were:

i. Thomas Wright "Tommy" DeHaven, born about 1868.  He married Talitha Susan Banks, born in (probably) Hancock County about 1869 to Job V. and Mary A. (Lyon) Banks.  Tommy and Talitha later divorced.  In 1930 he was living in Saginaw, Saginaw County, Michigan. Talitha was living with a son, Howard DeHaven, in Ferndale, Oakland County, Michigan.

ii. Bell M. DeHaven, born about 1874.  She apparently died fairly young but the time frame is unclear.  In 1900 Nancy reported she was the mother of 5 children, all living.  The 1921 Scofield biography of Charles, Bell's half-brother, named her as Bell M. (no married surname), deceased.  Burial location undetermined.

iii. Minta DeHaven, born about 1875.  It appears she remained in the family home until her father died, perhaps never married.  Location after 1920 not confirmed.

Nancy Wright Martin DeHaven died August 16, 1913.  Jonathan survived until October 3, 1924. They are both buried at South Cemetery, along with Jonathan's parents and a brother, Andrew Jackson DeHaven.
