Alice Roberts, daughter of Addison B. Roberts and Nancy Jane Mourning, was born in Illinois in 1859, either in Fountain Green Township, Hancock County, or Hire Township, McDonough County.

An outline map of Iowa illustrating the location of Van Buren County.She married Henry Arthur Chipman in McDonough County, Illinois, on December 28, 1876.

He was born about 1855 in Illinois, the son of Stephen M. Chipman and Mary L. "Lucy" Belcher.

In the mid 1880s the Chipmans moved to Van Buren County, Iowa.

Their children were:

i. Noble Chipman, born December 11, 1877, in Illinois, probably in or near Tennessee Township, McDonough County.  He died in 1952, burial at Center Chapel Cemetery near Keosauqua, Van Buren County, Iowa.
 
ii. Adaline "Addie" Chipman, born January 9, 1880, in Tennessee Township, McDonough County.  She died March 25, 1969, in Keosauqua, Van Buren County, Iowa, and was buried at Center Chapel Cemetery near Keosauqua.  Her obituary indicated she was the last surviving sibling.
 
iii. Stephen Otto Chipman, born August 15, 1893, in Illinois, probably in or near Tennessee Township, McDonough County.
 
iv. John Addison Chipman, born January 31, 1896 in Iowa, in or near Bentonsport, Van Buren County.  A veteran of WWI, he died in 1959, burial at Center Chapel Cemetery.
