Edward McClure was born in Tennessee Township, McDonough County, Illinois, the son of Rutherford McClure and Sarah White, both natives of Highland County, Ohio.  In one census record his name was entered as Edward J.; family members refer to him as James Edward McClure.

Mary Flint was born in Devonshire, England, and came to the United States around 1873.  She was the daughter of John Flint and Margaret Evans.

On February 14, 1880, Edward McClure signed an affidavit at the office of the McDonough County Clerk.
He attested that both he, age 24, and Miss Mary Flint, age 19, were single and unmarried.

McDonough County marriage license #653 was issued on the same day.  Both Edward's and Mary's residences were shown as Tennessee [Township], McDonough County.  They were married on February 15th by N. R. Welch, M. G., at the home of John F. Pulliam in McDonough County.  Witnesses were John Pulliam and John Moon.  Marriage Documents

Ed and Mary set up housekeeping in Tennessee Township. Presumably all of their children were born there:

i. Nellie M. McClure, born about 1882.  She married Walter Coe Kirk about 1903.

ii. Edith Jane McClure, born in 1884, died September 30, 1927, at Macomb, McDonough County.  Burial at Mt. Auburn Cemetery, Colchester, McDonough County.  About 1902 she married Ira Corborn Norris, son of Francis M. and Clementine Norris.

iii. Earl C. McClure, born August 25, 1888, died in 1965.  About 1910 Earl married Beulah M. Allison, daughter of Charles and Mary (Sanders) Allison.  Beulah was born June 3, 1889, died October 14, 1984.  They are both buried at Mt. Auburn Cemetery.

iv. Jessie M. McClure, born September 17, 1890. She died in 1968 and was buried at Mt. Auburn Cemetery.

v. Lloyd Edward McClure, born January 25, 1897. He died September 21, 1918, in Shields Township, Lake County, Illinois, interment at Mt. Auburn Cemetery.

Edward died January 29, 1936.  Mary died 10 years later - almost to the day - on January 28, 1946. They are both buried at Mt. Auburn Cemetery, Colchester. Part of Edward's tombstone inscription reads, "Apprentice Seaman U.S. Navy".
