NOBLE CHIPMAN 1877-1952
SARAH MATILDA DAVIS 1877-1932

Noble Chipman, son of Alice Roberts and Henry Arthur Chipman, was born December 11, 1877, in Illinois, probably in or near Tennessee Township, McDonough County.

McDonough County marriage license was issued at Macomb on August 23, 1895, to Noble Chipman, 18, of Bonapart, Van "Buran" County, Iowa, and Miss Matilda Davis, 17, of Blandinsville.  They were married on the 25th at Blandinsville by Rev. Samuel Magee, Minister of the Gospel.  Witnesses were Alva Davis and Mattie Roberts.  Marriage Documents

Sarah was born about 1877 in Illinois, probably Blandinsville Township, McDonough County, the daughter of Winfield Scott Davis and Mary Elizabeth Keithley.

Sarah was also the younger sister of George Alva Davis, who married Noble's mother's younger sister, Mattie Roberts.  In other words, Noble married the younger sister of his uncle by marriage (George Alva).  And Noble and George Alva were also brothers-in-law.

Not long after they were married, Noble and Sarah moved to Van Buren County, Iowa.

Noble registered for the draft on September 12, 1918.  He reported his address as R. F. D. 1, Mt. Sterling, Van Buren County.  His physical description was medium height and build, gray eyes, dark hair, no physical impairment.

The son of Noble Chipman and Sarah M. Davis was:

i. Ira Eula Chipman, born September 12, 1899, in Iowa, perhaps in Van Buren County.  He also signed up for the draft in 1918.  He was still living at home and working on the family farm.  He was described as being of medium height, slender build, gray eyes, brown hair, no physical impairment.

Eula married Nina L. Hankins about 1923.  They had two daughters whom they named Rosalie A. and Frances L.

Sarah died in 1932, Noble in 1952.  They are buried at Center Chapel Cemetery, near Keosauqua, Van Buren County, Iowa.
