JOHN L. HARDISTY
ca. 1843-1914
& MARY A. BRANHAM
ca. 1843-1915

Author - Marcia Farina

Mary A. Branham, daughter of Thomas Branham and Martina Gough, was born about 1843, probably in Township 6 North, 5 West in Hancock County.  That area would be named Fountain Green Township in 1850.

John L. Hardisty was born in McDonough County, Illinois, about 1843, the son of William Hardisty (also found as Hardesty) and Susan Hainline.

Nathan W. Hungate (who would marry Mary's sister, Sarah, two years later) appeared before the McDonough County Clerk on October 4, 1862, and signed an affidavit stating that Mary A. Branham was over the age of 18.  Also presented to the Clerk was a note signed on October 3rd by William Hardisty, asking that a "lison" be given to his son, John L. Hardisty.  Parental consent was required because John had not yet turned 21.

Mary and John were wed on October 5th by W. W. Gillihan, J. P.  Marriage Documents

Late in the 1860s John and Mary and their young children moved to Nodaway County, Missouri. By 1880 they had relocated to Montana Territory.  In November of 1889 Montana was admitted into the Union as the 41st state.

John died January 15, 1914, in Montana.  Mary died there the following year, on March 19, 1915.

The children of Mary A. Branham and John L. Hardisty were all born in Illinois, perhaps McDonough County.

i. Carrie Hardisty, born about 1863.

ii. Sarah Hardisty, born about 1865.

iii. Edwin L. Hardisty, born about 1868.  He married Amy (maiden name possibly Maddox) about 1894, probably in Montana.  Edwin and Amy died after April 1, 1930.  Census transcriptions
