| William J. Anderson was born about 1821 in Ohio, the son of The year 1850 found them in the household of John Grimes in Ross County. By then their first child, Eliza, had been born. About 1851 a son, James, arrived. Based on the birth locations of their children, William moved his family to McDonough County, Illinois between 1851 and 1858. William's parents also relocated to McDonough County. In 1860 the two households were listed one after the other in Tennessee Township. William and Sarah farmed and raised their children in Tennessee Township until sometime between 1880 and 1900, then retired from farming and moved to Macomb, McDonough County. They died after June 1, 1900, burial location undetermined. The eldest Anderson children were probably born in Ross County, Ohio. Those born in Illinois were probably born in Tennessee Township, McDonough County, Illinois. The known children were:
