WILLIAM J. ANDERSON ca. 1821-19__
SARAH ANN SOSMAN ca. 1829-19__

William J. Anderson was born about 1821 in Ohio, the son of James Anderson and Rachel Justice. Sarah Ann Sosman was a native of Ohio, born about 1829.  William and Sarah were married in Ross County, Ohio, on December 31, 1846.

The year 1850 found them in the household of John Grimes in Ross County.  By then their first child, Eliza, had been born.  About 1851 a son, James, arrived.

Based on the birth locations of their children, William moved his family to McDonough County, Illinois between 1851 and 1858.  William's parents also relocated to McDonough County.  In 1860 the two households were listed one after the other in Tennessee Township.

William and Sarah farmed and raised their children in Tennessee Township until sometime between 1880 and 1900, then retired from farming and moved to Macomb, McDonough County.  They died after June 1, 1900, burial location undetermined.

The eldest Anderson children were probably born in Ross County, Ohio.  Those born in Illinois were probably born in Tennessee Township, McDonough County, Illinois.  The known children were:

i. Eliza E. "Lyde" Anderson, born about 1847 in Ohio.  She died February 18, 1928, at Colchester, McDonough County, Illinois.

ii. James Anderson, born about 1851 in Ohio.

iii. Joseph Bruce Anderson, born February 12, 1858, in Illinois.  He died February 17, 1931, in Colchester Township, McDonough County, burial at Mt. Auburn Cemetery, Colchester.

iv. Martha J. Anderson, born and died in Illinois, February 6, 1861 - October 8, 1862.  Burial at Friendship Cemetery, Tennessee Township, McDonough County.

v. Eugene W. Anderson, born about 1864 in Illinois.

vi. Charles M. Anderson, born about 1866.  He died after April 15, 1910.
