William H. Winslow

William H. Winslow, son of Justin and Mahala E. Winslow, was born in Wayne County, New York. By 1840 the family was living in Hancock County, Illinois.  In 1842 Justin Winslow was recorded on the Nauvoo, Illinois, Tax Index as a property owner in Township 5 North, 5 West, the area that would be named Hancock Township in 1850.

On September 5, 1860, Hancock County marriage license #675 was issued to William H. Winslow and Miss Sarah A. Williams, both residents of Hancock County.  They were married on the 11th by D. Oliver, Minister of the Methodist Episcopal Church.  Accompanying the marriage license was a handwritten affidavit by which William attested that he was over the age of 21 and had never been married, and that Sarah was over the age of 18 and had never been married.
