When the Federal Census was conducted in 1900, Catharine reported she was the mother of seven children, four of whom were living. The base date of the census was June 1. We know that Jennie Ullrich Hartman died on June 4, 1900, and that John, Elizabeth, Ida and Andrew lived for many more years. We can therefore deduce that (1) the question about Catharine's living children was either not asked or not answered according to the census rules, and (2) Jacob and Charles were deceased. |
