| Clarence Lafayette Strong, born in Iowa, had made his way to Hancock County, Illinois, by 1880, and was working for A. R. Simmons in Fountain Green Township.
Katherine Elizabeth Alton, daughter of Elliott Alton and Elizabeth Gardner, was born and raised in Fountain Green Township. Clarence and Katie were married on January 25, 1881. They may have started out in Pilot Grove Township, where their second child was born in 1885. By 1895 they were established in Fountain Green Township, and by 1900 they had become the parents of three daughters and two sons. The children were:
Katie died in 1913. Clarence, who continued farming for a few more years with help from Earl, died in Carthage Township in 1923. Katie and Clarence are buried at Majorville Cemetery. |
