Katherine Elizabeth Alton, daughter of Elliott Alton and Elizabeth Gardner, was born and raised in Fountain Green Township.

Clarence and Katie were married on January 25, 1881.  They may have started out in Pilot Grove Township, where their second child was born in 1885.  By 1895 they were established in Fountain Green Township, and by 1900 they had become the parents of three daughters and two sons.  The children were:

i.	Albert LeRoy Strong, born August 4, 1883.  He died in March of 1963, burial location undetermined.
ii.	Rubie Edith Strong, born December 1, 1885, in Pilot Grove Township, Hancock County. She died May 17, 1970, in Burlington, Iowa, burial at Majorville Cemetery.
iii.	Grace Goldie Strong, born January 10, 1892.  She died April 11, 1989, burial at Glade Cemetery, Blandinsville, McDonough County, Illinois.
iv.	Gertrude Vera Strong, born March 12, 1895, in Fountain Green Township, died July 28, 1978.  Burial at Moss Ridge Cemetery, Carthage, Hancock County.
v.	Earl Scott Strong, born February 4, 1897, in Fountain Green (or Fountain Green Township). He died after July 28, 1978.

Katie died in 1913.  Clarence, who continued farming for a few more years with help from Earl, died in Carthage Township in 1923.  Katie and Clarence are buried at Majorville Cemetery.
