ANDREW A. WYBRANT 1820-1861
MARY A. WYBRANT 1820-1887

Ireland - McDonough County, Illinois

Andrew Wybrant's tombstone at St. Simon Cemetery, also known as the Lincoln Catholic Cemetery, provides his birth and death dates: December 20, 1820 - March 6, 1861.  Early census records indicate he was born in Ireland, although the 1880 listings for two of his children, Margaret and James, report that he was born in Scotland.

Andrew Wybrant's wife was Mary A. (maiden name undetermined).  The inscription on her tombstone at St. Mary's Cemetery, Tennessee Township, McDonough County, Illinois, indicates she was born August 15, 1820, died July 13, 1887.  Census records consistently show she was born in Ireland.

Enumerated in Andrew's household in 1850 was another Andrew Wybrant, age 60, born in Ireland. Perhaps this was the younger Andrew's father.

Also in 1850, within a few census pages, was the household of Ann Wybrant, age 60, born in Ireland.  In 1860, the same Ann Wybrant was enumerated just two households away from Andrew. The members of Ann's household and the proximity of her household to the younger Andrew's household, suggest that she was Andrew's mother, and the wife of the elder Andrew (who apparently died prior to the 1860 census).

The known children of Andrew and Mary A. Wybrant were:

i. Susan or Susanah Wybrant, born about 1842.  In 1850 her birthplace was recorded as Ireland.  In 1860 it appears she was enumerated in the family home and also in the household of John Berry.  Both of these entries reported her birthplace as Illinois.

ii. Elizabeth A. Wybrant, born about 1846 in Illinois, probably in Lamoine Township, McDonough County.  She died May 26, 1908, and was buried at St. Mary's Cemetery, Tennessee Township, McDonough County, Illinois.

iii. Margaret J. (Maggie) Wybrant, born March 1847 in Illinois, probably in Lamoine Township, McDonough County; died Decenber 28, 1923, in Lamoine Township, McDonough County, Illinois; burial at St. Mary's Cemetery, Tennessee Township, in the same county.  She was apparently named as Martha in the 1850 census.  She never married.

iv. Mary O. Wybrant, born February 23, 1847,* in Illinois, probably in Lamoine Township, McDonough County.  She died March 11, 1851, and was buried at St. Simon/Lincoln Catholic Cemetery, Hancock County, Illinois.  In the 1850 census Mary's age was recorded as 7, but this does not jibe with the inscription on her tombstone.

v. James William Wybrant, born April 1854 in Illinois, probably in Lamoine Township, McDonough County.  He died February 1, 1920, in Lamoine Township, McDonough County, Illinois.  Burial location undetermined.
