JOHN ROBERT LINCOLN 1863-1938
FLORENCE L. McCLURE 1871 or '72 - 1952

John Robert Lincoln, son of James Riley Lincoln and Margaret Gibbons, was born January 6, 1863, on the Lincoln homestead east of Fountain Green, Hancock County, Illinois.  He died April 13, 1938, at Fort Scott, Bourbon County, Kansas.  The body was returned to Hancock County for burial at Calvary Cemetery in Carthage.  Obituary

Florence McClure, daughter of John Park McClure and Lucy Mildred Burford, was born in Tennessee, McDonough County, Illinois.  She died January 6, 1952, at her home in San Gabriel, Los Angeles County, California, burial at Inglewood Park Cemetery, Inglewood, Los Angeles County.  According to family records her date of birth was October 1, 1871, her death certificate indicated 1872.  Census records generally support 1872, marriage records support 1871.

John and Florence were married May 8, 1894, at Carthage, Hancock County, Illinois, by Michael J. O'Brien, Roman Catholic Priest.  Witnesses to the marriage were Louis Culkin and Eliza McNamara.  Marriage Documents

Unfortunately the marriage didn't last - or maybe it did, after a fashion.  By 1910 Florence was living in California.  She had found a position and a long term home with the family of Theophilus "Jack" Henderson, her brother-in-law, a widower with two young children.

From 1910 forward, Florence's marital status was recorded as widow and her death certificate also indicated she was widowed, husband's name: John R. Lincoln.

An outline map of counties in the southeast corner of Kansas.John remained in the southeast corner of Kansas, perhaps going wherever he could find work.  His trade was one of the few consistencies shown in census records.  In 1900 he had owned his home, free and clear.  After the breakup, he boarded here and there. In 1910 the letter indicating John's marital status could have been either an M or a W, it's hard to decipher.  But in 1920 and 1930, he was clearly shown to be married.  It's possible that they simply went their separate ways and never divorced.

There were no children born to this marriage.
