Margaret Gibbons was born July 24, 1835, in Baltimore, Maryland, and died in Hancock County, Illinois, near Joetta, May 28, 1902.  She was buried at Calvary Cemetery, Carthage, Hancock County, Illinois.  Death Certificate   Obituary

Margaret's father's surname was Gibbons and, from the 1880 and 1900 census listings for Margaret, he was born in Ireland.  According to information apparently provided by her daughter, Alice Lincoln McManus, Margaret Gibbons Lincoln was a first cousin to James Cardinal Gibbons of Baltimore, 1834-1921, son of Thomas Gibbons and Bridget Walsh.

Margaret's mother was Margaret Boyd.  Margaret Boyd married (second) John Kelly; he named Margaret Gibbons Lincoln in his will shortly before his death in 1862.

The children of James Riley Lincoln and Margaret Gibbons were:

i. Stephen Thomas Lincoln, born November 21, 1859, in Illinois, probably in Hancock County, on the Lincoln homestead east of Fountain Green.  He died January 2, 1945, in Oklahoma; burial at Fairland Cemetery, Fairland, Ottawa County, Oklahoma.

ii. William Lincoln, the second child, who died at the age of 3.  There is a stone in St. Simon Cemetery which may bear the name William.

iii. John Robert Lincoln, born January 6, 1863, on the Lincoln homestead east of Fountain Green.  He died April 13, 1938, in Fort Scott, Kansas, burial at Calvary Cemetery, Carthage, Hancock County.

iv. Mary Catherine Lincoln, known as Kate, born about 1865; died in California between April 1, 1930, and April 13, 1938.

v. Charles Richard Lincoln, born about 1869; died before September 21, 1957.  Note the discrepancy in the 1900 census, in which his birth date was shown as September 1871. Enumerated as Richard in the 1870 census, his age was reported as 9/12, having been born the previous September.

vi. Alice V. Lincoln, born April 22, 1873.  She married Thomas F. McManus on January 23, 1901, in Hancock County, at her sister's home near Joetta.  Alice died September 21, 1957, in Keokuk, Lee County, Iowa.  Burial at Calvary Cemetery, Carthage.

vii. Carrie Lincoln, born April 22, 1873, died in 1923.
