ELIZABETH LINCOLN & WILLIAM DICKERSON/DICKENSON

Elizabeth or Elisabeth Lincoln, daughter of James B. Lincoln and Frances Day, was born between 1824 and 1825 in Kentucky.  When her brother, Thomas, died in April 1914, Elizabeth was not named as a survivor.  She is said to have died in Allen County, Kansas.  Burial location undetermined.

She married William Dickerson on April 2, 1856, in Adams County, Illinois.

William was born approximately 1828 (his age in census records varies widely) in Kentucky or Virginia.  From 1860 to 1880, he reported Kentucky twice and Virginia once, and his children reported both states as his birthplace from 1900 through 1930.  He may have been living in McDonough County, Illinois, as early as 1850.  There was a William "Dickson" living there then, 23, single, farmer, born in Kentucky.

In November of 1884 when Elizabeth's mother died, Elizabeth was named as Mrs. Dickinson, a widow living in "Missouri", so William apparently died between June 1, 1880, and November 1884.  His burial location is undetermined.

William's surname was shown as Dickerson on his marriage license and in the 1860 and 1870 Federal Censuses, but from 1880 forward, he and each of his four children were recorded with the surname Dickenson.

An outline map of Kansas Counties illustrating the location of Allen County. From 1900 through 1930, the four children were all living in Osage Township, Allen County, Kansas.  Elizabeth was not shown to be living with any of her children during those census years.

The children of Elizabeth Lincoln and William Dickerson/Dickenson were:

i. Mary Ellen Dickenson, born about 1858 in Illinois.  After her parents died, Mary lived with her younger brother, James.  She died after April 1, 1930, most likely in or near Osage Township, Allen County, Kansas.

ii. John H. Dickenson, born about 1860 in Illinois.  He died between January 01, 1920, and April 01, 1930, most likely in or near Osage Township, Allen County, Kansas.

iii. Thomas L. Dickenson (we can almost guess that his middle name was Lincoln), born about 1862 in Illinois.  He died after April 1, 1930, most likely in or near Osage Township, Allen County, Kansas.

iv. James William Dickenson, born about 1865 in Illinois.  He died after April 1, 1930, most likely in or near Osage Township, Allen County, Kansas.  After the death of their parents, James and sister Mary continued to share a home.
