CARTHAGE - H. Delmar Jobe, 83, of Carthage, and a lifetime resident of Hancock County died at 8:32 p. m. Saturday, Oct. 23, 1993 at the University Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa.

He was born Nov. 8, 1909 at Hancock Township, near Joetta, to Harry and Mabel (McGee) Jobe.  He married Alta "Fran" Huston on Aug. 24, 1939 at Keokuk, Iowa.  She survives at Carthage.

He is also survived by one daughter, Mrs. Gary (Pam) Ferguson of Sylvania, Ohio; one sister, Verla Saer of Carthage; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Ivan, Meredith, and Ronald Jobe.

Mr. Jobe was a graduate of the Woodville Country School near Joetta.  During World War II he worked at the Burlington Ordinance Plant.  He then worked for the Hancock County Road Maintenance Department and had worked for the Beals Motor Company of Carthage as a mechanic.  He had owned and operated the Gerdes and Jobe Tractor Dealership from 1953 until retirement in 1972.  After retirement, he worked for the Carthage Township Highway Department. He was also associated with the Sullivan Auction Service of Carthage.  He was a member of the Carthage Clippers Fire Department at Carthage since 1942.  He was awarded for over 50 years of active membership.  He was also an active volunteer of the RSVP at Carthage.

Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Lamporte Funeral Home of Carthage with the Dr. Stewart Jamison officiating.  Burial will be in Moss Ridge Cemetery here.

Friends may call after 2 p.m. today with the family meeting friends from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Hancock County Heart Association.
