  JAMES D. FLETCHER 1827-1917
MARTHA WRIGHT 1828-1915

An outline map of Kentucky counties, illustrating the locations of Garrard and Madison Counties.James D. Fletcher was born in Madison County, Kentucky, on November 21, 1827. Martha Wright was born in Madison County on February 1, 1828.  It appears that both lost their fathers prior to June 1, 1850.

They married in the early 1850s and by the time of the 1860 Federal Census were residing in adjacent Garrard County with four young children and, we believe, Martha's brother, Palestine Wright.  Palestine came to Hancock County, Illinois, between 1860 and 1865.

In 1870 James and Martha were residing in Allin Township, McClean County, Illinois.  James was then working as a carpenter.  The obituary of their middle child, Sarah, reported they came to Hancock County in the fall of 1870.  They farmed in Hancock Township for a time, then moved into the town of Colchester in McDonough County, where James again followed the trade of carpenter.

Martha died in Colchester on November 23, 1915.  James died two years and 5 days later, on November 28, 1917.  They are both buried at Mt. Auburn Cemetery, Colchester.  James' inscription includes the following: Ord Sgt Co H, 7 KY CAV

Their children were:

i. John Thomas Fletcher, born January 28, 1852, in Kentucky.  He died November 26, 1907, in Hancock Township, Hancock County.  Burial at Mt. Auburn Cemetery.

ii. William Chase Fletcher, born about 1852 in Kentucky.  He died September 15, 1935, in Carthage, Hancock County.

iii. Sarah Elizabeth Fletcher, born September 20, 1854, in Madison County, Kentucky.  She died March 19, 1923, in Hancock Township.  Burial at Majorville Cemetery.

iv. James P. Fletcher, born about 1857 in Kentucky.  He died February 14, 1937, in Hancock County.

v. Mary Alice Fletcher, born November 5, 1861, in Kentucky.  She died after April 1, 1930.
