CONN, George V., veterinary surgeon, who is engaged in the active practice of his calling at La Harpe, is one of the leading men of his profession in Hancock County.  He was born at Mediapolis, Des Moines County, Iowa, February 14, 1888, one of the nine children of Marlow M. and Mary E. (Hamilton) Conn.  Marlow M. Conn was born in New York state, but he later moved to Iowa, and was a farmer.  The mother was born in Indiana.

George V. Conn attended the common and the high school of his native place, and then entered the McKinley Veterinary College, from which he was graduated in 1911.  Immediately thereafter he entered upon the practice of his profession at La Harpe, where he has since continued, and has been very successful in his work.

Dr. Conn was married to Miss Clare R. Claycomb, a daughter of Harry E. Claycomb, and they have one child, Cathryn B., who was born June 6, 1914.  The Doctor and his family belong to the Methodist Episcopal Church.  In politics he is a Republican.  Upright and carfully trained, Dr. Conn not only is an excellent veterinary, but he is also a good citizen and man of sterling principles.

Dr. G. V. Conn Dies Friday, Ill Short Time
Former Veterinarian Here Had Retired to Home Town in Iowa

LaHarpe is shocked and saddened at the death in Burlington hospital last Friday, July 10, 1959 of Dr. G. V. Conn, for many years this community's veterinarian.

He passed away after a brief illness.  The remains were removed to the Fry Chapel in Mediapolis, Iowa, where funeral services were held on Monday afternoon.  Burial was in the Kossuth, Iowa cemetery, with Rev. Fred Robb, pastor of the First Presbyterian church of Mediapolis, officiating.

Dr. Conn practiced his profession successfully here from 1911 to 1953, when he and Mrs. Conn moved to Modesto, California.  There the doctor worked as a poultry inspector for the U. S. Department of Agriculture, until retiring in August, 1957 and returning to the vicinity of his birth and boyhood, Mediapolis, Iowa.

Dr. George Victor Conn, son of M. M. and Elizabeth (Hamilton) Conn, was born on a farm east of Kossuth, Iowa on St. Valentine's day in 1888.  He attended the public schools of Kossuth and later enrolled in McKillup Veterinary College in Chicago, from which he was graduated in 1911.

He began his practice here shortly thereafter and for many years had his office in his home, the residence now occupied by Joe Cameron at the Corner of South Center street and First Avenue.

Dr. Conn was a member of the Mediapolis Methodist church.

His is mourned by his wife, Mrs. Minnie Rose (Dustman) Conn, formerly of Dallas City; a brother, J. T. Conn, of Burlington, Iowa, and several nieces and nephews.

One daughter, Mrs. Kathryn Conn Smith, preceded him in death as did five brothers and two sisters.
