I found your site by the picture of James Barb (from the data on your page, he is my 2nd Cousin, 3 times removed). I am also a decendant from Johann Jacob Barb (my great(to the 4th power) Grandfather). But instead of being decended from Abraham Barb, I am decended from his brother, Jacob.
I just started genealogical research and just joined the Sons of the American Revolution via a different lineage (Charles Barker of VA).
I like your web site very much. It is very educational and helpful. Thank you for all your work.

I had done a little genealogical poking around and had visited the various family cemetaries, but your website made some of my relations come to life in a way they hadn't before. I'll tell my mother about this site right away--I believe she has some photographs that might be of interest, and I'm sure we'd both be interested in larger copies of some of the ones you've got posted.

My greatgrandmother was Frances LEACH born in NY in 1834 and lived in Nauvoo,Hancock County. She married Sigmund WALTHER in Hancock co in 1857. It seems like it is probably a different branch. It is a beautiful web page.

This site is amazing! I can't believe how easy you have made it for me to discover about my ancestry! I am attempting to put a family history together for my Dad's family...he's #13 out of 15...and would love to be able to include some photographs of our ancestors. Please e-mail me of this possibility! I would be more than happy to compensate you for your time and shipping costs. I am so excited to let my family know what you have helped me to learn!
My grandma passed away two years ago, and her children (most of them) got together recently to divide pictures, and unfortunately, nobody knows much of their family history. This is what spurred me into action! It seems such a crime to not know where you come from! I've only been at this a little more than two weeks, and was really beginning to feel like I'd bitten off more than I could chew...until I came across this site! Thank you so much!!
Please let me know the possibility of acquiring some pictures asap! ( I am so excited...I can't even tell you!)
Once again, THANK YOU!!!

We moved to 80 acres owned by Charlie Hankins when I was about four years old. That was 1938.Doris and Ira were our closest neighbors. I have shocked wheae and oats, pitched bundles of grain on the hayracks, and riddenin the buggy with the Kreps girl hauling water to the threshers. There was no running water, plumbing, or electricity.I went to Majorville Sunday School. I cant remember my teacher's name right now but I do remember she called me Leroy for along time, because I was too bashful to tell her my name.Iremember the ice cream socials at the church, and one time Doris and Ervin put on an old time melodrama there I was so young Idon't remember much about it, but there was alot of singing. I remember everyon's concern when we heard Ervin had been wounded in action. I guess my fondest memories were when we go to visit Doris and Ira on a cold winter night. We would set around the old wood stove, by the dim light of a coal oil lamp and visit. When the fire burned low Ira would get up and put another log on the fire, set down and resume telling about his war stories in France.I've been gone from there almost fifty years, the old home place is gone. I stil think of it as home, and that is where my fondest memories are.My parents were Leland"Sprout" and Louise Keithley.I sincerely hope I have added something you didn't know. Gene Keithley

I am related distantly to Delbert Campbell and have met him once. My great great grandparents are Harvey Russell Cordell and Sarah Brown Cordell. Their daughter Permelia Catherine Cordell married Isaac Lewis Dorethy who had Clyde Russell Dorethy who is alive and 96 years old and is my grandfather. He and his wife Irene Jefford Dorethy (alive and 91 years old, married almost 73 years)had Mary Agnes Davis who married Jim Davis who had me Dale Davis. I would like to see if Delbert has any more pictures of the Cordell family that could be scanned and sent to me for an eventual book. Any pictures of Permelia Catherine Cordell Dorethy or her siblings and parents would be great. Harvey Russell Cordell's mother Parmelia Vail Cordell married a Mordeci Springer after Lafayette Cordell died. Some pictures of her are sure to exist somewhere as she died in June 21, 1901. Delbert has to remember his Aunt "Kate" Dorethy. I would really like to find more pictures of this family. I have the two that he submitted and actually have an original of Harvey and Sarah Cordell. Does he have other pictures of either or their parents? I do have a picture of Sarah's parents Thomas Blueford Brown and Sydna Catherine Justus Brown. Dale Davis

Name: Helen Vargas <nachovar at mail dot mstar2 dot net> Date: 2002-07-24 Comments:
Marcia,
This is my new address and I will be able to return mail now.
I found John and Letitia Williams listed in "Index to War of 1812 Pension Files", volume 2, J-Z. My local historical society had the book. They are on page 1835. John, Letitia, WC(Widow Compensation)-21605, served Capt Fossett's Co SC Mil. Do you have this information already or know if anyone has these records before I send away for them.
I believe the James Marion Williams who married Anvernette Beckwith is the son of Patrick Mccorkle Williams and Loucetta Perrin Pope. Patrick is a son of Major John Williams. Patrick is listed on the 1850 census for McDonough Co, IL. Also listed in this family is a son James M. 13yrs old, born in IL. His father was born in KY and his Mother was born in IN. He also has a brother by the name of Labin. On the 1880 Cherokee Co, Tx census his brother L O is living with him.
Lemuel Rhodes Williams' daughter Sheba married James R Shields in Hancock Co. and then they moved to Clay Twp, Adair, MO. Does he tie into your Shields?
In "The Last Will and Testiment of Major John Williams " there is a son named, James listed. I believe this may be an error. And instead of James it should be Huston Jones Williams. Huston is listed on the 1850 and 1860 census with John Williams' family. A cousin of my Grandmother, of whom I corresponded with before she died, told me of two uncles who use to visit from KS. An Uncle Benjamin and Uncle Jones. I found a marriage license of a Jones Williams married in Adair Co, Mo in 1869. I also found him on the 1910 census of Clay Twp, Adair Co, MO in the household of Mary Gordon. He is listed as her Uncle. Huston Jones was an uncle to her late husband.Houston Jones was alive at the time John Williams died and should have been mentioned in his will but wasn't. I've never heard of a mention of John Williams having a son named James anywhere other then his Will. Is there some more information that I don't have on this son James? Helen

Marcia,
Thank you for answering my querry. I am sorry I can not E-mail you directly, for some reason our E-mail won't send. I may have some additional info about Elizabeth Jane Williams James White. I believe she is listed on the 1860 census of Hancock CO, IL at the home of her brother Benjamin Williams and his wife Ruth. There is a Jane listed after Ruth. She is a 30 yr. old white female born in IL. Then there are 3 children listed. The last child is Mary, a 1 yr old female born in IL. I believe Jane may be "Elizabeth" as Jane was her middle name and "Mary" may be Mary Henrietta. If this is true then Elizabeth's 1st husband would either have been dead or they were seperated by then.
In Thomas Greggs 1880 History of Hancock CO. it lists Elizabeth as having 5 children and then lists them as follows: Henrietta, James, ect. ect. I believe James is not a child but is Henrietta's last name.
On the 1880 Census Henrietta is listed as "Mary H. James" a daughter of Jergy and Elizabeth.
Noble is also listed in the 1968 History of Hancock CO, IL, Illinois Sesquicentennial Edition. He is listed under the Fountain Green section on page 303. He is listed as a grocery store owner in the late 1890's.
I found The History of Adair CO Missouri, by E.M. Violette at "The Family History Center" in SLC,UT. I copied that information and would be glad to send it to you by snail mail if you don't mind that or you may be able to get an interlibrary loan.
In answer to your question about the other "Winslow" buried in Majorville Cemetery, He was married to another daughter of Major John Williams, Lucena Ruth Williams. I don't know if they are really buried there or if it is just markers. My guess would be that it is markers.
Other family members who went to Adair Co. that I know of were: Lemuel Rhodes Williams, Benjamin Franklin Williams, Wayman Wesley Williams, and Lucena Ruth Williams Winslow Midcap Renshaw. Some of these also went to Kansas, But I don't know where. Elijah went to Vernon CO, Missouri.

Very nice site and very helpful to me. I am a descendant of John williams through his daughter, Sarah Anne Winslow Gordon. They moved to Adair County, Missouri after the Civil war. Some of Sarah's brothers and sisters and nieces and nephews did also. As I have been researching in Adair County I came across one of your ancesters. Noble White, the son of Jary and Elizabeth White. He is listed in the biography section of the book " A History of Adair County, Missouri", by E. M. Violette. There is a few pharagraphs written about him and a picture of his home. I also found him in the Highland Park Cemetery, Kirksville, Missouri. Born 5-8-1863/ 2-14-1922. He is in section C-45. Also in that section is Ella N. White 5-25-1859/ 11-11-1944, Chellis E. White 10-4-1885/ 9-6-1971, and Chellis G. White 8-18-1919/ 11-10-1944 MO Seaman 1 C U.S. Coast Guard Res. Elizabeth White's fist husband was Henry James and they were married 30 Dec 1857. I hope this has been helpful to you. Do you know anything about Elizabeth Williams James Whites' mother, Mary Williams? Thank you for sharing your information. I hope to have a site like yours soon. Thanks again!

Name: Marcia Farina <majorville at aol dot com> Date: 2001-07-25 Comments:
Hi Kelly,
Thanks for your kind words regarding my website and double thanks for alerting me to the problem with opening the Way family album page. Some time ago, I quickly threw the Way photo pages together, so that a cousin could see the pictures. I need to get back to that line and create pages like those for the Beckwiths. In my spare time - Ha!
I have quite a lot of documentation on the origin of my line of Ways, so much that I have barely scratched the surface as far as entering all of them in my database. Six generations before me, Joseph Way and Margaret Moss and some of their 10 children migrated west from Orange Co, North Carolina. Three of their sons, Alvis, Enoch and Joseph, settled in Hancock County; the others went (at least at first) to Wapello County, Iowa. Later on, son Enoch and his family moved to Colorado. My resource (for the older Ways) is a portion of the research collected by C. Granville Way from 1870 to 1912. I'd be happy to see if I have information on your branch.
Now regarding the Beckwiths, scratch one and you can quite likely find a Connecticut connection. I'm concentrating on those who ended up in Hancock County, Illinois, for the time being; every one I've found was a direct descendant of Elisha Huntley Beckwith (1764-1846). But I also have information on quite a few others.
Again, if I can share something that will help you, it would be my pleasure. If you have a relative with the surname Way or Beckwith, and if that relative lived in Hancock County, Illinois, anytime after 1830-ish, it's a pretty safe assumption that that person is related to me.

NICE website! Someday I hope to do something as all inclusive as you have. All the families must be proud.
Thought I might be related to your Beckwith and Way lines, but I believe ours came from Connecticut, not Illinois, so I just browsed a bit instead. Couldn't get the Way Family Album to open up, so I might be back later!
Thanks for such a nice resource.

Hi Max,
How nice of you to help Joyce with her research. Unfortunately, my Weir line is one of the two for which I have the least information, darn it.
The farthest back I go is William Weir, mother's name maybe Thursey or Thirza Alexander, father's name unknown.
William fell in love with his first cousin, Amanda Malvina Stefler, perhaps when he came to Illinois to look at some property he had inherited from an aunt, Hannah Alexander Huntley. He swept Amanda away from Hancock County, IL, in about 1852 and married her in Louisville, KY. They were the parents of my gg-grandmother, Mary Ellen Weir Way. Amanda died about 1857.
William subsequently remarried twice. The second wife's name is unknown to me; she was the mother of his second family: William, Edward, Clifford, Rupert and Emma. His third wife was Dora Madison, the widow of his half-brother, Jim Madison. As best I know, William remained in Kentucky until his death in 1908.
I have searched for the second family, indeed any evidence of William, and have come up with naught. One of these days I need to dedicate more time to this line.
In the meantime, however, I will check with a lady with whom I've corresponded regarding the Weir surname. I don't recall that I've seen the spelling Weirs - but I some days I'm lucky to remember my own name. I do think I've seen Weir postings on the Adams County, IL, website.
If I learn anything, I'll let you know.
Good luck,
Marcia Farina

I am working with a cousin of my wife's, Joyce A. Kirkum Koenig. Her father was James Willard Kirkham, son of Willard Kirkham and Frances Rose Weirs. The great grand parents in this line were James Henry WEIRS and Hannah Elizabeth Warnek, but that is as far as she has been able to go. James Henry Weirs and Hannah Warnek were married about 1854 and lived I think in Keokuk IA. Joyce's health no longer permits her researchs, so it would a great delight to her if you could provide and connection.
Thanks
