Mary (Gittings) Day.

Mary Jane (Gittings) Day, daughter of James L. and Annie Gittings was born in Chicago, Ill., December 20, 1892, and passed away at her home in Arnold Kans., at 8:30 a. m., Dec. 24, 1924, aged 32 years and 4 days.

She and her twin brother, Clarence were the oldest of a family of seven children.  When two years old she went with her parents to La Harpe, moving into the city when seven years of age.  She attended the public schools of La Harpe, graduating from the high school in 1911 and taught school for one year.  She united with the Methodist Protestant church of La Harpe when 16 years of age and remained a faithful member of that church until her death.

She was married June 5, 1912, to Charlie Day, of Fountain Green.  They moved to Colorado in 1913 and from there to Arnold, Kansas in 1920.  To this union six children were born, two of the children preceding their mother to the great beyond, Dorothy Ruby, the oldest passed away March 3, 1922, and a babe leaving them Dec. 4, 1924.

She leaves to mourn her death her husband and four small children, Charles Day, Jr., aged 10; Mary Elizabeth, 8; Fay, 4; and Clarence, 3; her mother, Mrs. Annie Gittings, of La Harpe; a twin brother, C. R. Gittings, of Compton, Calif.; five sisters, Mrs. Ruby Deeter, Misses Grace and Madelyn, Mrs. Kathleen Burrow, all of Chicago and Mrs. Nettie Roderick, of Des Moines, and many other relatives and friends.

The funeral services were held at the Union Church in La Harpe, Monday, Dec. 29, 1924, Rev. Malcomn [sic] F. Miller, officiating.  Burial in La Harpe cemetery.

Mr. Day is visiting with his parents but expects to return to his home this week.  His sister, Ruby Hobart, will take care of the two oldest children, Charles Day and Mary Elizabeth.  His other sister, Mrs. Charles Campbell, will care for the two younger children, Fay and Clarence.
