![]() James Campbell, son of John Campbell and Isabell Orr, was born October 6, 1805, in Pennsylvania. He married Eliza McCullough (or McCulloch) on March 25, 1829. She was born in Pennsylvania on February 17, 1811. With nine of their first ten children (an infant daughter had died in 1833), James and Eliza were counted in 1850 in Metal Township, Franklin County, Pennsylvania. Another son would arrive in 1851. According to a biography of their son, William T. Campbell, the family came to Hancock County, Illinois, in 1853 and settled in Fountain Green Township. Isaac Oakman, who would marry James and Eliza's daughter, Elizabeth, in 1851, was also in Metal Township in 1850. His household was listed on the census page previous to the James Campbell family. An 1894 biography of Isaac reported that Isaac (and Elizabeth) arrived in Fountain Green (Township ?) on May 12, 1853. The Campbells remained in Fountain Green Township until 1874, then moved to LaHarpe in LaHarpe Township. James died on July 27, 1877, burial at Fountain Green Cemetery. Eliza died December 9, 1893, burial location undetermined. All of their children, except the youngest, are said to have been born in Fannettsburg, Metal Township. None of the 1850 census pages for Metal Township indicate residents of Fannettsburg, proper, but various occupations of those counted in proximity to James and Eliza (innkeeper, merchant, tailor, dentist, etc.) do support the assertion that they lived in the village. The Campbell children were:
