enumerated August 6, 1850, dwelling #387 Thomas Dickey, 60, male, farmer, value of real estate 1500, born PA
In 1855 the Thomas Dickey family was counted in Township 8 N 6 W (later named Lomax Township), Henderson County, Illinois. Penina Dickey married in late October and on November 29, Melinda married Robert M. Glass. The timing of these marriages suggests that the Dickeys had been in Illinois for an interval sufficient to give both sisters time to meet and be courted by their husbands to be. Robert, the son of Samuel Glass and Rachel Marshall, was born in 1834 in Pennsylvania. His family had come to Illinois in the late 1830s. Robert and Melinda set up housekeeping in Fountain Green Township, Hancock County, Illinois. Five babies arrived in quick succession before Melinda died. She was buried at Fountain Green Township near two little daughters. Melinda and Robert's children were probably all born in Fountain Green Township:
Robert and the surviving children were living with his parents in 1870, and in 1872 he remarried. |
