In 1850 Melinda Dickey was at home with her family in Green Township, Indiana County, Pennsylvania.

1850 Pennsylvania Census, Indiana County, Green Township, page 29A
enumerated August 6, 1850, dwelling #387

In 1855 the Thomas Dickey family was counted in Township 8 N 6 W (later named Lomax Township), Henderson County, Illinois.  Penina Dickey married in late October and on November 29, Melinda married Robert M. Glass.  The timing of these marriages suggests that the Dickeys had been in Illinois for an interval sufficient to give both sisters time to meet and be courted by their husbands to be.

Robert, the son of Samuel Glass and Rachel Marshall, was born in 1834 in Pennsylvania.  His family had come to Illinois in the late 1830s.

Robert and Melinda set up housekeeping in Fountain Green Township, Hancock County, Illinois. Five babies arrived in quick succession before Melinda died.  She was buried at Fountain Green Township near two little daughters.

Melinda and Robert's children were probably all born in Fountain Green Township:

i. Rachel Glass, born about 1857.

ii. Mary Elizabeth Glass, born March 18, 1858.  She died February 22, 1938, in Hancock County.  Burial at LaHarpe City Cemetery.

iii. Lovina B. Glass, born about August 1860, died February 22, 1862, burial at Fountain Green Cemetery.

iv. Linda V. Glass, born March 5, 1863, died May 19, 1863.  She was buried at Fountain Green Cemetery.

v. Samuel G. Glass, born about 1864.

Robert and the surviving children were living with his parents in 1870, and in 1872 he remarried.
