GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN.

Joseph Hansen Dunn was born November 20, 1854, in Pennsylvania.  Our efforts to determine his parents have been stymied.

Amanda Sibert, also called Maddie, was born in McDonough County, Illinois.  She was the daughter of John Sibert and Anna Catherina Kube.  The Siberts apparently lived for a short time in McDonough County, then relocated to Fountain Green Township in adjacent Hancock County, where Amanda would spend the rest of her life.

The date of birth inscribed on her tombstone is May 11, 1857, but most records suggest she was born in 1856, including an obituary.  If she was born in 1856, she was a twin to Fanny, who died in infancy.  If Amanda was born in 1857, then she and Fanny were born exactly one year apart.  As outrageous as we might consider it, there are a number of examples of incorrect dates on tombstones for people documented on this website.

Mrs. Joseph Dunn died at the family home on the J. W. Andrews farm four miles southwest of La Harpe at 6 o'clock Sunday morning, April 14, 1918.  Her maiden name was Amanda Seibert and she was 61 years 11 months and 3 days old.  Her birth occurred in McDonough county, Ill. May 11, 1856 and her entire life was passed in this vicinity.  The family moved from Fountain Green to the Andrews farm in 1913.  The husband and four sons, John of Galesburg, Ernest, Clint and George of the home neighborhood, survive.  Two daughters preceded their mother in death, one of whom was the late Mrs. Jas. Andrews of La Harpe.  She leaves 3 sisters, Sadie Tippet of Ft. Green, Jane Shilling of Carthage and Mrs. Youngmeyer of Adrian, and 2 brothers, John and Gabe Seibert of Ft. Green.

Joseph and Amanda were married on March 30, 1876, by Rev. Thomas M. Walker. Marriage License

They farmed and raised their family in Fountain Green Township.  We presume all of the children were born there.

Joseph survived Amanda by 12 years, died in Macomb, McDonough County, on April 25, 1930.  Both he and Sadie were buried at Fountain Green Cemetery, where their shared tombstone also marks the resting place of their daughter, Margaret.

Joseph and Amanda's children were:

i. Lillie S. Dunn, born about 1876.  She died as a child, sometime after June 1, 1880, burial location not determined.

ii. Sarah E. Dunn, known as Sadie, born February 9, 1878, died April 1, 1914, in LaHarpe, Hancock County.  She was buried at LaHarpe City Cemetery.  Her husband was the James W. Andrews mentioned in Amanda's obituary.

iii. Margaret M. Dunn, born January 18, 1880, died March 9, 1901.  Buried at Fountain Green Cemetery.

iv. John Henry Dunn, born January 31, 1885.  He died after April 1, 1930.  John's first wife and a son are buried at Fountain Green Cemetery.

v. William Ernest Dunn, born June 28, 1886, died after April 1, 1930.

vi. James Clinton Dunn, born September 12, 1888, died after April 1, 1930.

vii. George Wesley Dunn, born October 8, 1895.  He died after April 1, 1930.
