Nathan Dorothy was the son of Robert Dorothy and Rhoda Stennett of Virginia and Kentucky, respectively.  (There are several spelling variations of Rhoda's maiden name.)

Mary Jane was born November 14, 1832 (date calculated from tombstone inscription), the daughter of Basil and Nancy Wright.  The place of her birth is unclear, reported variously as Tennessee and Kentucky, but her family is said to have arrived in Hancock County, Illinois, in March of 1832.

McDonough County marriage license #830 was issued at Macomb on May 21, 1849, to Nathan "Dorathy" and Miss Jane Wright.  They were married on the same day by James D. Eads, Elder of the Christian Church.  Marriage License
