CHARLEY CALLIHAN
1871-1876

(tombstone not yet photographed)

CHARLEY
Son of
L. & H. G. CALLIHAN
Died Sept. 8, 1876
Aged 4 Ys. 10 Ms. 4 Ds.

This stone was read in the 1960s; the number of days or perhaps the entire age was in question.

It seems likely this inscription actually reads Son of J. & M. C. Callihan.  Jacob and Mary Catherine (Weiser) Callihan lost a son named as Charlie in both of their obituaries.  This son was said to have died young, was not named in any family census enumerations, and this youngster's approximate birth date, November 4, 1871 (calculated from the inscription), fits amongst those of the other Callihan children.  Also, this marker is located in proximity to two of Mary Weiser Callihan's younger sisters.  We have not found another family with parents named L. & H. G. Callihan.

Based on details presented in Jacob Callihan's obituary, little Charlie would have been born in Point Township, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania, and brought as a babe in arms to Hancock County, Illinois.
