RICHARD B. BRANDON
1875-1893

Son of James F. Brandon and Sarah J. Marshall

The Republican
Carthage, Illinois
January 25, 1893

Excerpted from the Fountain Green column by Rose:

We were awakened Friday morning by the mad tolling of the bell which told us that our young friend and schoolmate, Richard B. Brandon, had gone to a land where there is no more pain and sorrow. Dick, as we always called him was loved by all who knew him, a loving brother and obedient son. He was born at Macomb, McDonough Co., 1875, and died Jan. 18, 1893.  He had been afflicted with heart trouble nearly all his life, but by his good courage has been able to be about all the time until about two weeks ago, when he took his bed.  He has been left to the care of his father ever since 1879, when his young mother was called away.  He leaves a father, brother Earnest and sister Mabel, besides a number of other relatives and friends to mourn his loss.  Rev. S. H Hyde, D. D., of Carthage, preached an encouraging sermon to those left to mourn him that their dear one was not dead but asleep and by trusting in the One who doeth all things well they should meet him above. The remains were followed by a large concurse [sic] of people to the Fountain Green cemetery where they were laid to await the summons from on high.
