Thanks to Heather Meredith for sharing the marriage booklet presented to Walter and Elizabeth on their wedding day.  This keepsake was passed down from Sidney Parker Allton.

Walter S. Allton was born November 5, 1818, in Lewis County, New York, the son of David Allton and Lucy Farwell.

He was first married on August 16, 1841, to Matilda Bresler, who died before July 4, 1850.  Burial location undetermined.

The daughter of Walter and Matilda was:

i. Elizabeth (Betsey) V. Allton, born about 1842 in Illinois.  She died before December 17, 1879, probably in or near Jackson Township, Harrison County, Iowa.

Walter's second wife was Elizabeth Fancher, who was born March 13, 1828, in Indiana, the daughter of Richard Fancher.  From Encyclopedia Of Genealogy And Biography Of Lake County, Indiana, 1904, Lewis Publishing Company, page 90:

RICHARD FANCHER, an explorer here in 1834, a settler in 1835, lived for a short time on the bank near the little lake where he first made his claim, but finding an Indian float on all of Section 17, he was soon counted in with the families of the village.  He was born in 1800.  He had five daughters, and these became Mrs. J. C. Nicholson, Mrs. Alton, Mrs. Sanford Clark, Mrs. J. Clingan, and Mrs. Harry Church.  Excepting himself the family were Presbyterians.  He lived to a good old age and died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Clingan, in 1893.

(On the Board of Health document accompanying Edward Alton's marriage license, Elizabeth's maiden name was shown as Fanchier.  In his obituary the name was spelled Francher.  That same spelling appears in Lake County, Indiana, marriage records compiled by the Indiana Works Progress Administration in 1939.)

Walter's elder brother, William, is said to have lived for 11 years in Crown Point, Lake County, Indiana; we could guess that it was through this connection that Walter became acquainted with Elizabeth.

Walter and Elizabeth were married on July 4, 1850, in Lake County, perhaps at Crown Point.  The pastor, William Townley, presented them with The Christian Ministers Affectionate Advice to A Married Couple, by Rev. James Bean, A.M.

Elizabeth died May 19, 1869, and was buried in Fountain Green Cemetery.

The known children of Walter Allton and Elizabeth Fancher were:

i. Sarah Matilda Allton, born in 1851, probably in Fountain Green Township, Hancock County, Illinois.  She died in August of 1874 at the age of 22 years, 10 months and 23 days.  Burial at Fountain Green Cemetery, Hancock County, Illinois.

ii. Ida Alton, born about November 1855, probably in Fountain Green Township.  She died after April 17, 1943, probably in Iowa.

iii. Edward Miles Alton, born in 1868 in Fountain Green Township.  He died April 17, 1943, in Bremerton, Kitsap County, Washington.  Burial at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Bremerton.

On April 12, 1881, Walter married Miss Sidney Parker at LaHarpe, Hancock County, Illinois. Witnesses to the marriage were Homer Vincent (Walter's son-in-law) and Monroe Parker (Sidney's nephew).  Marriage Documents

Sidney Parker was the daughter of Abel Parker and Margaret Gragg.  She was born in Fayette County, Ohio, about August 1826.

Walter died February 11, 1900, and was buried at Fountain Green Cemetery, Hancock County, Illinois, beside Elizabeth.

Sidney died in the spring of 1909.  Her burial location has not been determined.

The family surname was originally spelled Allton.  Over the years, some family members adopted the spelling Alton.
