Sarah Etta Keithley was born in McDonough County, Illinois, the daughter of George W. Keithley and Abigail R. Lyon.  Sarah remained unmarried until after 1900 when she became the second wife of Jasper Silas Kent (or Silas Jasper), a widower with one living son. Sarah and Silas had but a few years together before her death in 1909.  No children were born of their union.
