Horrace Hillman's given name was spelled Horrace on his tombstone and in the 1860 Federal Census, but as Horace in all other census years.  He was born in Kentucky in 1840.  In 1850 the family, headed by William and Nancy Hillman, was counted in Hardin County, Kentucky.  It appears that Nancy Hillman died before the time of the 1860 Federal Census.

Harriet Lucy Nelson, daughter of Enos K. Nelson and Mary Ann Oakes, was born in 1848 in Illinois, perhaps in Hancock County.

On July 25, 1866, Horrace applied for a marriage license for himself and Miss Harriet Nelson.  He signed an affidavit declaring that both he and Harriet were of legal age to marry.  McDonough County marriage license #2770 was issued and they were married on the same day.

In 1870 and for the next 40 years they were counted on their farm in Hire Township, where they became the parents of twelve children.

Horrace died in 1915.  Harriet remained on the farm for another five years, then at some point moved into Blandinsville.  She died in Blandinsville on February 6, 1931.  Both are buried at Friendship Cemetery.

The Hillman children were:

i. Flora Agnes Hillman, born about 1867; she died June 16, 1939, in McDonough County.

ii. Alice D. Hillman, born about 1868, died after April 15, 1910.

iii. Arthur B. Hillman, born in 1870.  He died July 3, 1939, in McDonough County, and was buried at Mt. Auburn Cemetery, Colchester, also in McDonough County.
