John and Eliza were the children of

Ebenezer Newton Hicks and Jane Robinson. These inscriptions were previously deciphered with Jane's initials as J. E. She was named in Federal Census records as follows: 1850 - Jane E.; 1860 - Jane; 1870 - Jane C.; 1880 - Jane C. The initial in Jane's tombstone inscription is C. and she was named as Jane C. in a biography published in 1885.
