HATTIE A. HICKS
BORN SEPT. 25, 1856.
DIED JAN. 30, 1896.

A precious one from us has gone
A voice we loved is stilled;
A place is vacant in our home,
Which never can be filled.

Born in Carter County, Tennessee, Hattie McInturff was the daughter of Daniel and Harriet McInturff, both natives of Tennessee.

She was first married on February 18, 1875, in Linn County, Missouri, to Robert Rush.

A portion of the Linn County marriage register.

According to the 1880 Federal Census Hattie was a widow, but it must be noted that entries of widowhood are often unreliable.  Robert and Hattie had three children:

i. Benjamin Franklin Rush, born November 27, 1875, in Missouri.  He farmed in Blandinsville Township for a number of years, died October 14, 1960.  Burial at Glade City Cemetery, Blandinsville.

ii. Maud A. Rush, born July 10, 1877, in Missouri.  She died in childbirth on September 1, 1903, in McDonough County, burial at Friendship Cemetery.

iii. Robert Rosco Rush, born October 14, 1878, in Missouri.  After his mother's death, Robert returned to Missouri.  While living with his uncle, Abraham McInturff, in Linn County, Missouri, in 1900, Robert was farming on rented acreage.  He subsequently worked in the railroad industry in Missouri and Texas.  He died after April 1, 1930.

Hattie suffered from a congregation of health problems.  She reportedly came to Vishnu Springs in McDonough County hoping for relief.  She met and married the developer of Vishnu, Darius Hicks, in 1889.  The waters had no restorative powers for Hattie, she died before reaching her 40th birthday.
