Wilbur Fisher, son of Josiah Fisher and Catharine George, was born in either 1894 or 1895. When he registered for Selective Service on June 5, 1917, the registrar filled out the form and entered the name Wilbur Roy Fisher, date of birth October 13, 1895.  Wilbur signed his name as Wilbur Ray Fisher.  The tombstone at Friendship Cemetery bears the given name and date of birth illustrated above: Wilber R. Fisher, born Oct. 13, 1894.  We have viewed a number of Selective Service forms with dates not in agreement with other references.

In 1900 "Wilbur" was living with his father and mother in the home of his half-sister, the former Cora Fisher, and her husband, Calvin Inman.  The census taker recorded Wilbur's birth as October 1895.

Wilbur lost his mother in 1906 and Josiah may have also died.  Census records suggest that Wilbur lived with his mother's people for a number of years.

In 1910 "Wilber" was in Tennessee Township, McDonough County, in the home of Catharine's brother, William George.

In 1920, again named as "Wilber", he was living with Charles and Dora Bell (George) Riser in Hire Township, McDonough County.  Dora was Catharine's sister.

By 1930 "Wilbur R. Fisher", 35, had married (at age 27) and was farming in Hire Township.  His wife was Bessie R., 30 (age at first marriage - 22).  We have not yet determined Bessie's maiden name.  Wilbur and Bessie had no children at that time, but they were, in turn, helping another motherless boy, young Wendell Simmons, whose mother had passed away four years previously.
