George Cuba, son of Philip and Elizabeth (Hilmes) Cuba, was born in Hessen, Germany, July 16, 1843, and died at his late home, in Tennessee, Ill., March 15th, 1924, of organic heart disease, from which he had been a patient sufferer since last September.

He, with his father's family came to America in 1854.  Settling in Ohio for two years, then coming to Hire Township, McDonough Co., Ill., where they lived two years when they moved to Tennessee, Township, which has since been his home.  He was a farmer by occupation, only leaving his farm home two months ago, where he had lived since 1873.  January 15th, 1868, he was united in marriage to Miss Margaret Snearly, to this union seven children were born, one died in infancy.

P. H., Silas, Bert, Mrs. Florence M. Heikes of Tennessee, Mrs. Elizabeth M. Robinson of Carthage, Ambrose of Colchester, with 11 grandchildren and one great grandchild survive.  On June 9th, 1881, he was again married to Mrs. Ann Elizabeth Frank of Ft. Green, Ill., who with one step son, W. B. Frank, of Pasadena, California, also survive.

He was converted in young manhood and has lived a consistant Christian life since, being a faithful member of the Colchester Free Methodist Church for many years.

He was a kind and loving husband and father, a good neighbor and citizen.  Verily a Father in Isreal hath gone to his reward.

Funeral conducted by Rev. Hubbs of Tennessee, at Friendship at 1:30, Monday, March 17th, 1924.  Interment in Friendship cemetery.

State of Illinois death records indicate that George Cuba died in Tennessee Township rather than the village of Tennessee.

"Miss Margarete Ellis Snearley" was named in the last will and testament of Margaret Callihan (widow of Thomas Callihan).  This will was written on January 2, 1866.  On August 23, 1871, as funds from the estate were being distributed, Margaret E. Cuba signed a receipt for her share, $73.12.  It appears that Margaret was enumerated with Thomas and Margaret Callihan in the 1860 census, aged 10.  We have not determined the precise relationship between Margaret and the Callihan family.  Cuba - Snearly marriage license

George and Margaret initially lived with his father and their first three children were born on the Kube/Kuba homeplace.  They then bought a farm a half mile east.  All of their children were born in Tennessee Township.  They were:

i.	Philip Henry Cuba, born about September 1868.  He married Mary "Mamie" Elisabeth Reid about January 20, 1892.  Mamie was born in Illinois about 1868, the daughter of William M. Reid and Mary Emma Curtis, both originally from New York.  Census listings See also: Philip H. Bonn & Nellie E. Reid.
ii.	John Silas Cuba, born about February 1870.  He married Sarah Lenna Hupp about 1910.  It was his first, her second marriage.  Census listings
iii.	Florence "Tillie" M. Cuba, born about September 1872.  She married William Price Heikes, son of Edward and Sophia Heikes, about 1906.  In March of 1908 they were said to be living in the village of Tennessee, McDonough County.  They bought a farm in the Hills Grove area in 1920 and lived there until he died in 1949.  Census listings
iv.	Elizabeth M. Cuba, born about 1874, named as Lyse M. in the 1880 census.  She married George Alman Robinson about 1909.
v.	Joseph Ambrose Cuba, born in 1877, died in 1953, burial at Mount Auburn Cemetery, Colchester, McDonough County.  He married Mable Reid, sister of Philip's wife, Mary Elisabeth.
vi.	Bert Cuba was born October 3, 1879, in Tennessee Township.  He died May 11, 1944, at his home in Tennesee Township and was buried at Hills Grove Cemetery, McDonough County.
vii.	Cuba child, died in infancy

The 1880 Federal Census, base date June 1, is the last evidence of Margaret being with George and the children.  George remarried the following June.

Ann Elizabeth Frank (nee Callihan) was the daughter of John Callihan and Elizabeth Long.  Ann was also the granddaughter of the above mentioned Thomas Callihan, and the widow of Mahlon P. Frank.  Ann and Mahlon had been married less than three years when Mahlon died in June of 1874. They had one son, William Bishop Frank, born in 1873, and Ann was expecting.  The second baby was Bertrie M. Frank, born in December of 1874, died in May of 1876.  Mahlon and Bertrie are buried at Majorville Cemetery in Hancock Township, Hancock County, Illinois.

Ann and George were married at her father's home in Hancock Township on June 9, 1881, as stated in George's obituary.  Marriage License  Ann and George had no children together.

Mrs. Elizabeth Cuba an old-time resident of this place, but for a number of years living near Tennessee, has been visiting her daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Robinson and other relatives and old friends.  Mrs. Cuba will depart July 1st for California to spend the rest of her life with her son, Bishop Frank.  We are sorry to see her leave but wish her contentment blessed with health.

John Long was a German descendant but I know very little of their coming to America.

My grandfather Long married a granddaughter of Gen. Wolfe.  Gen. Wolfe's daughter married a Young, and Young's daughter married John Long, my grandfather.  Most of my mother's people were of German descent and lived in Pennsylvania.  My mother married John Callihan Nov. 10, 1831 at Lancaster, Pa.  They came to Illinois in the spring of 1842 and lived on a farm near Fountain Green 45 years.  The following was taken from the life of Gen. James Wolfe:

Gen. Edward Wolfe was born in southern Ireland, he settled in Westerham Kent England in 1725. They lived at the foot of a hill in a many gabled house which was very picturesque.  Gen. James Wolfe was born in 1727.  He was over six feet tall and had very red hair.  He loved to dance and always danced with the tallest and most graceful lady present.  At the early age of thirteen and one-half years he volunteered on the Spanish Maine, was taken very sick and was sent home to his mother who kept him in school for the next two years.

He married Katherine Lowther, daughter of ex-governor Bardodes and sister to Lord Lousdale. In 1775 was put in charge of the army to capture [Quebec].  On February 17, 1756 he sailed from Spithead in the ship Neptune with twenty-two sips consisting of frigates, sloops of war and transports.  He was very sea sick coming over.  Louisburg was blocked with ice so they were forced to land at Halifax.  He was shot at the capture of [Quebec] and when told the enemy runs said, "I die happy."

When Ann's brother, Cyrus, died in late August of 1927, his obituary stated that he and Ann had both gone to California in 1924 and made their home together.  It is not clear as to whether or not she survived him.
