MARTIN W. BURROW 1847-1920
CARMILA TABITHA BURROW 1849-1934

A photo of Carmila in her later years. For display on this website only.
Carmila Tabitha Burrow was born in 1849 in Tennessee, probably Macon County, to Jarrel Burrow and Emiline Wright.

Carmila married Martin W. Burrow on March 17, 1869, in Hancock County, Illinois.

An image of Martin W. Burrow's signature.

"Mart" Burrow was born in Tennessee in 1847.  Evidence suggests that he was the son of William Burrow and Elizabeth Ford Wilson, and the brother of Taylor Burrow, who married Carmila's sister, Mary Jane Burrow, in 1870.

Carmila and Mart farmed and raised their children in Fountain Green Township, Hancock County, until after the turn of the century, then moved to Peoria, Peoria County, Illinois, and resided with their daughter and son-in-law, Letha and Frank Sharpe.

Mart died May 16, 1920, in Peoria, Carmila died August 12, 1934, also in Peoria.  They were buried in the Burrow-Sharpe family plot at LaHarpe City Cemetery, Hancock County. The spelling Carmilla appears only on her tombstone.

The Burrow children were:

i. William J. Burrow, born March 5, 1870, died August 14, 1902.  Interment in LaHarpe City Cemetery, LaHarpe, Hancock County.

ii. Ottis O. Burrow, born March 27, 1876.  He died November 1, 1952, burial at LaHarpe City Cemetery.

iii. Letha Jane Burrow, born in 1882, died July 6, 1937, in Peoria.  She married Franklin Joseph Sharpe in the early 1900s.

The son of Samuel Sharpe and Jane Ballinger or Ballenger, Frank was born July 20, 1876, in Hancock County.  When he registered for Selective Service in 1918, he was employed as a brakeman for the Chicago and Alton Railroad.  He was described as being of medium height and build, with brown eyes and brown hair, no infirmities. Frank died December 11, 1943, at Bloomington, McClean County, Illinois.

Both Letha and Frank were buried in the Burrow-Sharpe family plot at LaHarpe City Cemetery.

They had one son, Russell F., born about 1904.
