Jacksonville, TX, May 28,1892 Uncle Charlie Beckwith, well known to many of our readers, died last night at Mr. J. T. Bullock's near this city. Yesterday was Mr. Beckwith's 80th birthday.
Faye Johnston This page previously indicated that Charles and Sarah were married in Parke County, Indiana, circa 1834. We have found absolutely nothing to substantiate this location. It seems more likely that Charles and Sarah were married in the east before setting out for Indiana - although we've not found any hard evidence to support this theory, either! We can throw out a wild guess that they were married about 1834, based solely on the birth year of their first known child, but it remains purely a guess. Patty Munson-Rodriguez forwarded Charles and Sarah's burial location and also information on Sarah's age. In the index for Jacksonville Cemetery, Sarah's age at the time of her death was recorded as 74 years and 3 months. Her date of birth, above, is calculated from that inscription.

Jacksonville, TX, June 12, 1890 Mrs. Charles Beckwith, aged about 75 years, died of hemmorhage of the brain. She became ill going home from town, and stopped at Mrs. Gooden's house where she died.
Faye Johnston Miles Wilcox and Jerusha Bancroft are said to have married between 1804 and 1809 in Windsor, Connecticut, moved to Smithville, New York (where they lived until about 1835), and then moved to LaHarpe, Hancock County, Illinois. They are said to have been the parents of 13 children. The household of Miles Wilcox appeared in the 1840 Federal Census of Hancock County. We have not located the family in 1850. In 1860 Jerusha Wilcox was enumerated in the home of Henry Wilcox, presumably her son. In 1870 Jerusha and her daughter, Sarah Wilcox Beckwith, were counted in the home of Emiline Beckwith Parker (Charles and Sarah's daughter). In the 1880 Federal Census, Henry Wilcox reported both of his parents had been born in Connecticut. |
