Emma Mae Munson was the second child of Eli Dickerman Munson and Mary Virginia Barb.

At the time of the 1880 Federal Census, Eli and Mary were counted in Pleasant Township, Cass County, Iowa, with their first child, five-month-old Elizabeth.  When Elizabeth died in 1917, her obituary stated that when she was about three, her parents had located on the farm in Hancock Township, Hancock County, Illinois, where Elizabeth grew up and remained until she married.

All census records found thus far for Emma Mae Munson indicate she was born in Illinois, but California death records indicate she was born in Iowa.  In Olive McLaughlin's extensive compilation of Barb descendants, Mae's date of birth was recorded as July 28, 1881. California death records indicate July 28, 1882.  There is the possibility that the informant for Mae's death certificate was a second husband, but that's getting ahead of this story.

William Jasper Conn was born September 29, 1881, in Hancock County, Illinois, most likely Fountain Green Township, where his parents, Lorenzo Conn and Margaret R. Dye, farmed for many years.

Will and Mae were married on September 27, 1904, at the Munson family home in Hancock Township, west of Joetta.

In 1910 Will and Mae were farming in Lamoine Township, McDonough County, Illinois.  In the census that year, Mae reported she had borne one child, none living.

In 1918 Will's Selective Service registration was made through the Macomb, McDonough County, Draft Board.  The Munson's mailing address was shown as Route 3, Plymouth, Hancock County. He was self-employed, farming in Lamoine Township, McDonough County.  He was described as being tall, of medium build, with blue eyes and grey hair.

In 1920 they were counted in Woodstock, Dorr Township, McHenry County, Illinois.  Will's occupation was again recorded as farmer.

The News of Fountain Green

Mrs. Munson and Mrs. Will Conn will soon move into a new home in Sacramento, Calif.

When Mae's mother, Mary, died in 1927, Mae was said to be living in Los Angeles.  Efforts to locate either Will or Mae in 1930 have been fruitless.

They parted company at some point.  According to California death records, Mae E. Dunn, born July 28, 1882, in Iowa, father's surname Munson, mother's maiden name Barb, died in Los Angeles County, California, on April 2, 1942.  Without having the death certificate, we do not know the name of the informant.  We cannot unequivocally state which year of birth, 1881 or 1882, was correct, or which birth location, Illinois or Iowa, was correct.

Will died in 1947.  From his funeral card:
