1.4.1 William Kennedy Seybert, was born on 23 March 1877 in Indiana and died on 10 November 1947 in Kalamazoo, Michigan (obituary).  William married Cloa Bixler, daughter of Isaac and Eliza (Penny) Bixler, in Lagrange County, Lagrange, Indiana, on 7 March 1897 (their children and census data are linked from her parents).


1.4.2 Myrtie E. Seybert, was born in 1878 in Indiana and died on 5 December 1957.  Myrtie and her husband Wallace G. Merchant, who was born in 1876 and died on 30 December 1943 are both buried in Oaklawn Cemetery in St. Joseph County, Sturgis, Michigan (her name is listed as Myrtie Merchant, of Sturgis, Michigan in her brother, William's obituary in 1947).  She must have married in about 1900, she and her husband, Wallace Merchant, both stated that they had been married for 10 years in the 1910 Federal Census of 2nd Ward Sturgis, St. Joseph County, Michigan, ED# 138, sheet 4A (Myrtie also stated that she had given birth to 4 living children):

In the 1920 Federal Census of 2nd Ward, Sturgis, St. Joseph County, Michigan, ED# 162, sheet 2A their household consisted of: Wallace age 43; Myrtie, age 41; Ruth H., age 17; Florence M., age 14; Roscoe W., age 11; and a nephew, Donald W. Storey, age 8, born in Michigan (son of Myrtie's sister, Bertha).  Their three girls, Rena, Ruth and Florence were all married in St. Joseph County, Michigan (these marriages all appear on the St. Joseph County Genweb):

I have not ordered copies of the above marriages, Florence outlived her siblings, according to her obituary she married Clarence Bunnell, on 15 March 1924, in Centreville.  Clarence Bunnell died on 20 September 1947.


1.4.3 John Franklin Seybert, was born in September 1880 in Indiana and died on 11 August 1937 (his obituary), he and his (2nd) wife, Pearl Adelle Cross (nee Bailey) are both buried in Riverside Cemetery in Kalamazoo, Michigan (they are not buried on the same lot, Pearl is buried on ). Pearl died on 27 October 1948.  "Frank" married twice, his first wife was Minnie (unknown) he listed his marital status as divorced in 1930.  I have not yet located him in the 1900-1920 censuses.


1.4.4 Carl Henry Seybert, was born on 27 June 1885 in Indiana.  By 1910 he was married and living in 2nd Ward, Kalamazoo, Michigan, ED# 135, sheet 9A (Carl and Grace both stated that they had been married for 3 years, making their date of marriage in about 1907; Grace stated that she had given birth to 2 children, 1 of whom was still living):

In 1920 Carl was single and living as a boarder in Kalamazoo.  His first wife, Grace was living in 5th Ward, Kalamazoo, ED# 173, sheet 15B.  Grace listed her marital status as divorced, their daughter, Lucille was now age 11.  Grace listed her occupation as a tailorist in a regalia factory.  In the 1930 Federal Census, Lucille Seybert, age 21, listed her occupation as a "supervisor telephone", she was lodging in Cook County, Illinois, ED# 1611, sheet 8A.

By 1930, Carl and his 2nd wife Viola had established a household in Climax Township and he was already working for the Gibson Company.  Also listed in the 1930 household was his brother, Frank, age 50, divorced, occupation listed as a molder in an auto factory.  Carl's obituary appeared in the Kalamazoo Gazette on Sunday, 19 December 1971:

"Mr. Carl H. SEYBERT - 7070 S. 40th Street, Climax, Michigan, age 86, passed away Friday afternoon at Beverly manor.  Mr. SEYBERT was born June 27, 1885, in Howe, Indiana, son of Henry and Ida SHOEMAKER SEYBERT and had been a resident here for 46 years. Mr. SEYBERT was a retired woodworker, having been employed by Gibsons.  In 1921 he was married to the former Viola EVERITT, who survives, and they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in October of this year.  He is also survived by two sons, Glen and James SEYBERT of Climax; one daughter, Mrs. Charles (Joyce) WATTS of Climax; one sister, Mrs. Donald (Ethel) SNOW of Kalamazoo; 10 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.  Friends may call at the Hoag-Schmitts Funeral Home, Climax where services will be held Monday at 2 p.m., Rev. Wilbur A. Williams officiating.  Interment Gilson Cemetery, Scotts.  The family suggests that memorials be made to the Custer State Home."

1.4.5 Harrison Merril Seybert  was born in August 1888 in Indiana and died on 16 June 1945.  Harry is buried in the Veterans Section of Riverside Cemetery in Kalamazoo, Michigan (no marker).  Harry was married twice, he married (1st) Jesse Rogers in 1908 and (2nd) Violet Pratt Haas in 1925.  His WW I draft registation card listed his address as Buffalo, NY in 1917, he was a private in the Army National Guard, birthplace listed as Howe, Indiana.


1.4.6 Inez Minnie Seybert, was born in August 1892 in Indiana and died in 1930 in Kalamazoo, Michigan.  Inez was not listed in her brothers', William or Carl obituaries.  In 1914 she married Glenn Powell, they had no children.


1.4.7 Bertha May Seybert, was born in about 1884 in Indiana (her obituary stated that she was born on 11 June 1887) and died in 1959, she is buried in Section 3, Lot 128 of Riverside Cemetery next to her sister Inez (Seybert) Powell.

Bertha married Myrton Lesley Storey in about 1907.  His WW I draft registration card dated 12 September 1918 gave the following information:

In the 1910 Federal Census they were living in 4th Ward, ED# 149, sheet 15B, street address listed as 1630 High Street (could also be 1130; Bertha and Myrton both stated that this was their first marriage they had been married for 3 years; Bertha stated that she had given birth to 1 living child):

In 1920 she was boarding in her brother William's household in Kalamazoo--her son, Donald, was living with her sister, Myrtie (see above) two daughter's, Hazel and Winifred were both living in a children's home on South West Street in Kalamazoo; the third daughter, Josephine was a roomer in the household of Clarence and Carrie Leverton in Kalamazoo, Josephine’s age was listed as 1 year and 11 months old, the census was recorded in January of 1920, the Leverton’s lived at 822 Normal Place).

In the 1930 Federal Census Bertha was enumerated in 4th Ward, Kalamazoo, Michigan, ED# 32, sheet 3B.  Bertha gave her marital status as married; however, her husband was not listed in the 1930 household:

Bertha's obituary:

Her daughter Josephine, in 1930 was age 12 years was recorded in the household of L.E. and Inez Powell in Kalamazoo as "Josephine Powell".  Josephine died on 1 October 2001 (her obituary).


1.4.8 Everett R. Seybert, was born in May 1895 in Indiana and died on 11 August 1895 in Lima Township, Lagrange County, Indiana.


1.4.9 Otto McKinley Seybert, was born on 29 September 1896 in Indiana.  Otto was not listed in either William or Carl Seybert's obituaries.  He was married in the 1920 Census, age listed as 23, occupation machinist in a paper mill; his wife Lillian was age 20, born in Ohio.  Otto and Lillian were both living with his father, Henry Seybert, who at age 67, was still working as a blacksmith in 1920.  Otto died on 9 September 1920 (funeral notice) in Kalamazoo, Michigan (Kalamazoo County Death Records, 1920, page 150, cause of death listed as "TB infection of the knee joint and muscle sheath of the thigh").


1.4.10 Ethel Seybert, was born on 15 July 1901 in Kalamazoo, Michigan and died on 3 December 1982 (her obituary).  She married 1st, Herman Louis Emmons Jr.  he died on 6 February 1977 (his obituary).

In the 1920 Federal Census there were recorded in the 12th Precinct of Kalamazoo, ED# 157, sheet 15B.  Herman listed his occupation as a drill press operator, their sone Donlad H. Emmons was just 7 months old; address listed as 118 Oakland Drive.

In the 1930 Federal Census they were living at 309 W. Frank St. in Kalamazoo.  Herman listed his occupation as a laborer in an "auto parts co".  The three children listed in the household were: Donald, age 10; Mary, age 9; Robert, age 6, all born in Michigan.

Her name was listed as Ethel Snow in 1947 in her brother William's obituary and in 1971 in her brother, Carl's obituary she is listed as Ethel (Donald) Snow.  Her obituary stated that she married Donald W. Snow on 1 July 1939 and listed her children as son Donald of Kalamazoo (his obituary), son Robert L. Emmons who preceeded her in death in February 1982 and daughter Mrs. Mary Vose who preceeded her in death in March 1982; burial was in Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery in Kalamazoo.
