In the 1850 Federal Census of Allegheny Township, Blair County, Joseph and Sarah's household listed (all family members were born in "Pa"):

In the 1860 Federal Census of East Ward Altoona, Post Office Altoona, Blair County, Pennsylvania, enumerated on the 14th of June their household listed (all family members were born in "Penna"):

The children of Joseph P. Trout and Sarah Jones were:

5.1.4.1 Thornton D. Trout, was born in about 1830 in Pennsylvania.  In the 1860 Federal Census, he was married and living in East Ward, Altoona, Post Office Altoona, Blair County, Pennsylvania, enumerated on the 18th of June (Wilford Trout was continued on the next page):

#476  464  Thornton Trout    30       m    Do [Engineer]    600    100    Do [Penna]
                Margaret             26       f                                              Do
                Fleming                3      m                                              Do
                Wilford   Trout      2/12   m                                             Penna
Thornton probably died before the 1870 census.  In 1870, Margaret was working as a housekeeper for Jacob Holtzman, a widower in Altoona, 1st Ward, Blair County, Pennsylvania.  There is a Fleming trout age 11, listed in the 1870 census of Philadelphia, 15th Ward, 47th District, Philadelphia County, in the "House of Refuge".

In 1880 Margaret, age 43, widowed, was living in Altoona, 1st Ward, Blair County, Pennsylvania with her son, Flemon A. Trout, age 22, single, no occupation listed.  Their two known children were:

5.1.4.1.1 Flemon A. Trout, was born in about 1857 in Pennsylvania.  From Blair County Marriage Applications Volume II, 1891-1893:
"Trout, F.A.    33yrs.    white    grocer    born and raised in Altoona
former spouse died 1876
son of Thornton and Margaret Trout

Siples, Mrs. Sarah    30yrs.    domestic    born Putnam, County, NY    raised in Altoona
former spouse died 1887
daughter of Charles L. and Jane LeRoy
appl. date 1 October 1891
marriage--no return of duplicate"

I don't believe that the above marriage was ever executed.  In the 1900 Federal Census of Altoona City, Eighth Ward, Blair County, Pennsylvania, ED# 50, sheet 2A, enumerated on the Second of June, his household at address 403 Ninth Ave. consisted of: (Flemon and Catherine both stated that they had been married for 10 years ~1890; Catherine stated that she had given birth to 5 children of whom 1 was still living; all birthplaces were recorded as Pennsylvania):
#27  30  Trout, Flemon [?]  Head       Sept  1857  42    Tobacconist

5.1.4.1.2 Wilford Trout, was born in about 1860 in Pennsylvania.

5.1.4.2 Elizabeth Trout, was born in about 1831 in Pennsylvania.

5.1.4.3 Darius Trout, was born in about 1834 in Pennsylvania.  The DAR lineage continues on in the application from their son Darius Trout, born on 10 August 1834 and died at Elizabeth Furnace, Pennsylvania on 2 September 1865.  Darius married Matilda Oswald (the word "Ditch" is written on the application after Oswald) in about 1857.  Matilda was born on 11 November 1842 and died at Altoona, Blair County, on 27 March 1912.  He is listed in the 1860 Federal Census of East Ward Altoona, Post Office Altoona, Blair County, Pennsylvania, enumerated on the 14 of June (all were born in "Penna":

#370  362  Derrius Trout    26    m    Fireman        50
                Matilda            22     f
                Thornton           2    m
In the 1870 Federal Census Matilda was working as a Domestic Servant in a Boarding House in 1st Ward Altoona.  Two years later she did remarry, from the Altoona Tribune dated 2 January 1872:
"Married on the 28th of February by Rev. H. Baker, Mr. Denton Ditch to Mrs. Matilda Trout."
In the 1880 census, Dent and Matilda Ditch were living in Altoona and had two sons of their own.  Their known son was:
5.1.4.3.1 Thornton B. Trout, was born in about 1859 in Pennsylvania (DAR National #722467 gives his date of birth as 21 April 1859, which matches the 1900 census).  In the 1870 Federal Census he is very likely the "Thorent Trout", age 11, living with the Adam and Barbara Dewalt family in Porter Township, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania (relationship not stated).  He died on 15 March 1922 and is buried in Blair County, Oak Ridge Cemetery, Section C, Lot 109.  His wife, Anna M. Trout, died on 26 August 26 1954 and is also buried in Oak Ridge Cemetery.

In 1880 Thornton was age 21 and enumerated in the household of his uncle, Joseph Trout (see below).  From Blair County Marriage Applications Volume I, Oct. 1885-1890:

"Trout, Thornton D.    29yrs.    white    fireman    Penn R.R.
former sp. died 13 Feb. 1887
son of Darius and Matilda Trout

Bressler, Annie M.    19yrs.  white  born and raised in Altoona
daughter of Mahlon H. and Elizabeth S. Bressler

Married 14 January 1889 at Altoona, Blair County, Pa., by Rev. Walter R. Whitney"

In 1900 Thornton was enumerated as the head of household in the 1900 Federal Census of Altoona, 8th Ward, Blair County, Pennsylvania, ED# 62, sheet 3B, address 520 Second Ave., recorded on the 5th of June (Thornton and Annie both stated that they had been married for 12 years; Annie stated that she had given birth to 5 children, 4 of whom were still living--all members of the household and birthplaces were listed as Pennsylvania):

#59  59  Trout, Thornton B.    Head     Apr   1859  41   Locomotive Engine
                          Annie M.    Wife      Mar   1869  31
Benjamin F.     Son       May  1889  11   At School

                           Mary M.  Daughter  Jan   1897   3

The DAR application also lists his wife's name as Anna M. Bressler, date of birth 20 March 1859, and their date of marriage as 14 January 1889.  Their known children were:

5.1.4.3.1.1 Benjamin F. Trout, was born in May 1889 in Pennsylvania.

5.1.4.3.1.2 Maggie May Trout. From the Blair County Genealogical Society Obituary file, dated 21 April 1890:

"Maggie May, daughter of Thornton D. and Annie M. Trout died at 6:15 o'clock Saturday morning aged 6 mos., 5 days, at parents residence, 1108 Second avenue.  Funeral took place yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock.  Interment in Oak Ridge cemetery."

5.1.4.3.1.3 Matilda E. Trout, was born in May 1893 in Pennsylvania.

5.1.4.3.1.4 Mahlon Trout, was born in December 1894 in Pennsylvania.

5.1.4.3.1.5 Mary M. Trout, was born in January 1897 in Pennsylvania.

5.1.4.4 Flemming or Flemon Trout, was born in about 1836 in Pennsylvania.  The following marriage notice appeared in the Altoona Tribune dated 25 April 1861:

"Trout, Flemon to Sarah H. McMahon, 18 April 1861 at the Pasonage by Rev. W.L. Spottswood, both of Altoona."
After their marriage they were living in Altoona, 3rd Ward, Blair County, Pennsylvania, in the 1870 Federal Census, recorded on the 15th of July:
#164  169  Trout, Flemming    33    m    Engineer on R.R.    Pennsylvania
Sarah          31    f     Keeping House       Pennsylvania
In the 1880 Federal Census of Altoona, Blair County, Pennsylvania, page 72C, Fleming was age 42 and listed his occupation as an Engineer.  Sarah his wife was now age 41.  Also living in their 1880 household was a niece, Berta M. Nelson, age 7, born in Pennsylvania.  "Flemon" and Sarah may have adopted Berta or Bertha or at least she listed them as her parents on her marriage application.  From Blair County Marriage Applications Volume III, 1894-1996:
"Cover, William H.    36yrs.    atty. at law
born Somerset County, raised Altoona
Son of David and Leah Cover
Trout, Berta May    23yrs.    born/raised Altoona
daughter of Flemon H. and Sarah H. Trout

Married 7 October 1896 at Altoona, Blair County, by Rev M.L. Greene"

In the 1900 Federal Census of Altoona, Fleming H. Trout listed his date of birth as July 1837, he was 62 years old, occupation is very faint, however, I believe what was written was "Blind".  Sarah was now 61 and gave her birth as May 1839.  They both stated that they had been married for 39 years, Sarah stated that she had given birth to no children.  Fleming's brother-in-law, "Rubin" McMahan, age 56, a tobacconist, was also listed in their 1900 household.  "b. 7-2-1837 d. Dec. 26, 1901 bd. Prospect Hill Cem. Altoona Pa."

5.1.4.5 Lydia A. Trout, was born in about 1838 in Pennsylvania.

5.1.4.7 Mary J. Trout, was born in about 1844 in Pennsylvania.

5.1.4.8 Joseph G. Trout, was born in about 1846 in Pennsylvania.  Joseph had married and was living in Altoona, 2nd Ward, Blair County, Pennsylvania, in the 1870 Federal Census recorded on the 25th of June (all family members were born in Pennsylvania):

Joseph and his second wife, Anna, were enumerated in the 1910 Federal Census of Altoona, 9th Ward, Blair County, Pennsylvania, ED# 56, sheet 25A, address listed as 1412 Pine Avenue (Joseph and Anna both stated that they had been married for 37 years [in about 1873]; Anna also stated that she had given birth to 7 children, 4 of whom were still living which contradicts the 1900 census, however she may have also included Joseph's children by his first wife in those numbers; all birthplaces were listed as Pennsylvania):

5.1.4.9  Edward Bell Trout  was born in about 1852 in Pennsylvania, his cemetery marker reads born on 23 August 1850 and died on 17 June 1889.  He married Catherine Ann Sproat, her marker shows her birth as 8 October 1848 and death as 27 April 1929.  They are both buried in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Section A, Lot # 64.

In the 1880 Federal Census, Edward and "Katherine" were enumerated living in Altoona, Blair County, Pennsylvania, ED# 155, page 104C, address 1304 5th Avenue, recorded on the 8th and 9th of June (all birthplaces were listed as Pennsylvania; Minnie William and Fannie had all attended school in the past year):
