Listed below are the descendants of Gideon D. Trout, the son of John and Elizabeth (Ake) Trout.

Gideon D. Trout

The earliest record of Gideon Trout is the 1840 Federal Census, where he is likely the "G Trout" listed in Antis Township, Huntingdon County:

Note--living next door in the 1860 census was their son Russel (see Russel's 1860 household below).  In the 1870 Federal Census of St. Clair Township, Post Office Spring Meadow, Bedford County, Pennsylvania, enumerated on the 22nd of June, their household listed (all family members were born in "Penna"; there is a mark in the column for Elizabeth noting that her father was of foreign birth):

Gideon was still living in the 1880 Federal Census of East St. Clair Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania, page 303D.  He was listed as age 70, occupation farmer, he stated that his father was born in Virginia and listed his mother's birthplace as Pennsylvania.  Still living at home was his daughter, Anna B., age 41, her marital status was single.  His sons Richard and James were living next door (see below).

The children of Gideon D. Trout were:

5.1.5.1 Russell M. Trout, was born in about 1834 in Pennsylvania.

"...a miller m. 1st Mary Growden b. 1839 Ogletown, Pa. d. 1935 bd. Grandview Cem. Johnstown, Pa. [if this was his first marriage, I did not find them living together in the census records] Only child , a girl m. John Ripple.  m. 2nd Sarah J. dau. Asa and Rachel Silver."

Note--the author listed two Russell Trout's in the manuscript, both were listed as sons of Gideon.  The 1st Russell M. Trout was born in about 1834 and the 2nd Russell Trout was born 4-21-1858 and died in 1944, he married Flora Bell Burkhart, they later retired to Tampa, Florida.  The second Russell M. Trout was living in Florida in the 1930 census, however, I do not believe that he was Gideon's son.  This 2nd Russell Trout looks to be from another branch, he was living in Adams County, PA in 1880.   The 2nd Russell Trout had several descendants listed in the manuscript, but since he does not appear to be Gideon's son, I have not included them.

Russell was living next door to his parents in the 1860 census (all family members were born in "Penna"):

#260  241    Russel Trout      25      m    Miller
                  Sarah                22      f
                  Geo. D.               2      m
                  Lizzie           6/12    f
                  Sarah Pearson    10       f
                  Geo. W. Bixler    25      m    Miller
I could not find Russell in the 1870 census in Pennsylvania--but that was primarily because he was living in Nebraska!  Russell was the only Trout that I could find indexed in the 1870 Federal Census of Nebraska.  He was living in Douglas County, Omaha City, 6th Ward, recorded on the 22nd of August:
 #315  348  Trout, R.M.    35    m    at Singer Sewing Machine    Penn
                     Sarah J.     33    f     Keeps House                     -----
                      Darsey     12    m    School                              -----
                    Lizzie B.     10    f     School                              -----
                      John L.       6   m     ------                               -----
                   Rachel E.       3    f      ------                               -----
By 1880, Russell had taken up carpentry as a trade.  He and Sarah were again listed in Omaha, 6th Ward, Douglas County, Nebraska, page 327C (I attempted to look at the actual image of the page, however, the film is terrible, so I have to assume that the LDS transcription is correct).  R.M. Trout, was listed as age 45, born in PA, his wife, S.J., was age 43, also born in PA.  Their children still at home in 1880 were: John, age 16, born in PA; Ella, age 13, born in PA and a son Draper, age 5, born in Nebraska.

Twenty years later, in the 1900 Federal Census, Russell and Sarah were enumerated in Glenwood City, 2nd Ward, Mills County, Iowa, ED# 94, sheet 10A, address listed as West St. on the 12th of June (Russell and Sarah both stated that they had been married for 43 years; Sarah stated that she had given birth to 6 children, 5 of whom were still living--their son Asa D., Trout was living next door, see below under his name):

#219  232  Trout, Russell M.  Head  Mar  1835  65  Pennsylvania  Pennsylvania  Pennsylvania  Farmer
Sarah J.   Wife  Apr   1837  63  Pennsylvania  Pennsylvania  Pennsylvania
Mury P.  Nephew  Mar   1884  16  Pennsylvania  Pennsylvania  Pennsylvania  at School

The "Muray P. Trout" in the 1900 census above is a bit of a puzzle.  The only possible scenario that makes any sense is that Murray P. Trout is the son of one of Russell's two brothers, either Richard (who was married in the 1880 census) or his brother William (unlikely, since he did not appear in the 1880 census--or at least I could not find him).  Murray P. Trout does appear in the 1910 Federal Census, I have placed Murray under Russell's brother, Richard Trout, for the time being (see below).

Russell and Sarah were enumerated for the last time in the 1910 Federal Census of Glenwood Township, Glenwood City, 2nd Ward, Mills County, Iowa, ED# 92, sheet 27B, recorded on the 2nd and 3rd of May.  Russell and Sarah both stated that they had been married for 52 years, Sarah also stated that she had given birth to 6 children, 5 of whom were still living.  Russell listed his age as 75, he had no occupation, he stated that he was living on his "own income".  Sarah was age 73.  There is a listing for Russell M. Trout, from Grave Stone Records of Mills County, Iowa:

Their children were:
5.1.5.1.1 George D. Trout, was born in about 1858 in Pennsylvania.  In the 1900 Federal Census he was enumerated in Omaha, 9th Ward, Douglas County, Nebraska, ED# 91, sheet 12B, address listed as 1002 N. 32nd St., recorded on the 14th and 15th of June (George and Margaret both stated that they had been married for 11 years; margaret also stated that she had given birth to 1 living child):

George D. and his wife Margaret N. Trout, ages 51 and 43, respectively, were living in Omaha, 9th Ward, Precinct 2, Douglas County, Nebraska, ED# 65, sheet 5A, in the 1910 Federal Census.  Recorded on the 20th of April their household included their daughter, Pauline, who was now age 15.  George was still working for the telegraph office, they both stated that they had been married for 20 years, Margaret also stated that Pauline was her only child.  Margaret's had changed her mother's place of birth to England.

There is also a listing for George  and Margaret Trout (the same page as his father's record and same lot number), from Grave Stone Records of Mills County, Iowa:

By 1920, Asa and Mary had relocated their household again, this time to Minnesota.  They were enumerated in the 1920 Federal Census of Pine River Township, Cass County, Minnesota, ED# 93, sheet 17A, recorded on the 2nd and 3rd of January:

#3  3  Trout, A.D.    Head       45     Nebraska    Farmer    Farm

Mary J.  Wife     55    Iowa          None
John R.   Son      28    Iowa          None

Asa D. and Mary Jane Trout are both listed in the Minnesota Death Index.  Asa's date of birth is listed as February 1st 1874, date of death is listed as 21 January 1956 in Crow Wing County, Minnesota.  His mother's maiden name is listed as "Silver".  Mary Jane's date of birth is listed as the 24th of November 1874, date of death listed as 5 February 1955 in Crow Wing County, Minnesota.  her mother's maiden name is listed as "Martin".  Their two children were:

5.1.5.2 James Alem Trout, was born in about 1836 in Pennsylvania.  Author also listed another son of Gideon as Allen B. Trout, b. 1836--an error, this was James Alem Trout from the 1860 census.  "James A. Trout, b.c. 1837 Springmeadow, PA.  Clerk in father's store.  m. 1st Sara A. died 10-9-1865 age 24 yr. 8 mo. bd. Horns Cem. St. Clair Twp. Bed. Co. Pa.  m. 2nd Martha..."

In the 1880 Federal Census of East St. Clair Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania, page 303D, his household consisted of: James A., age 43, occupation farmer, wife Martha, age 28 both born in Pennsylvania.  He was living next door to his father and brother Richard in the 1880 census.  James A. and his wife, Martha, were both listed in the 1900 Federal Census of East St. Clair Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania, ED# 12, sheet 3B.  They had no children and Martha stated that she had given birth to no children.  They had been married for 25 years, James listed his occupation as a farmer and gave his birth as July 1837, Martha listed her birth as May 1852.

He was still living at age 72 in the 1910 Federal Census of West St. Clair Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania, ED# 31, sheet 10B.  His name was recorded as J.
