(15.1.10.6.1.4/1.3.5.6.4.4) Ruth Mae Gardner, born on 7 March 1908 in Nebraska. She married Daniel Dell Hatten on 5 March 1926. Ruth inherited a big trunk of belongings from her mother, with a lot of things from England. She would take the kids and sit around and look at the things. She would say, “These are my mother’s most precious belongings”. When I was 13, the house burned down, we were never sure how it caught on fire. I was home from school because I was sick. My mom said, “Ruth, what’s that noise?” I looked into the hallway and saw that the house was on fire. We got the kids out and started grabbing everything we could. My dad came running up and said, “Ruth, did you get my violin?” I hadn't thought to get it and he lost the violin in the fire and we lost the whole trunk full of grandma's belongings. The trunk was at the top of the stairs and I went up and tried to get it but it was too big and too heavy. I grabbed as many things as I could save. My dad tried to go in and get his violin but the neighbors grabbed him as he was trying to climb in the window, just then the entire top story caved in and would have killed him. If he would have saved the violin it was worth enough that it would have paid for all we lost because it was a Stradivarius. He made his first violin out of a cigar box and played music with it. There five children:
