Listed below are the children of Catherine Jane Roe and Samuel W. Dean.  Catherine was the daughter of Jonathan Roe I and his wife, Lucretia Van Valkenburg.

In the 1850 Federal Census of Washington Township, Adams County, Indiana, on the 20th of August their household listed:

It is unknown what happened to Catherine.  In 1853, Samuel married (2nd) Jane Gragg, on the 27th of January in Rushville, Schuyler County, Illinois.  She was the daughter of Thomas Gragg and Minerva Dimmick.  She was born on 4 June 1835 in Morgan County, Ohio, and died on 21 September 1913 in Sioux City, Woodbury County, Iowa.  Burial  in September 1913, in Lincoln Township Cemetery, Hinton, Plymouth County, Iowa.  The son of Catherine Jane Roe and Samuel Dean was:
(1.6.8.1) Jonathan R. "Jack" Dean, was born in May 1843 in Indiana and died at the age of 77, in 1919, in Kalamazoo County, Michigan.  His death certificate lists his father as Samuel Dean and his mother as Kate Roe.  Jonathan is listed as living in Kalamazoo, Michigan at the time of his father's death in 1899, and in the obituary of his sister, Lillie Dean Harrison in 1902.  Jack did visit Iowa from time to time, but remained in Michigan.


The children of Samuel Dean and his (2nd) wife Jane Gragg were:
i. Delilah "Lolly" Dean, was born on 24 January 1853 in Johnson County, Iowa; died on 9 April 1933 in Sioux City, Woodbury County, Iowa.  She married (1st) Pleasant Henderson Barnes on 10 May 1876 in Johnson County, Iowa, the son of George Barnes and Delphine Holman. He was born on 24 April 1853 in Johnson County, Iowa, and died on 8 October 1929 in Bemidji, Beltrami County, Minnesota.  She married (2nd) Stephen Yeigh on 18 October 1883 in Woodbury County, Iowa, the son of John Yeigh. He was born 1858 in Pennsylvania, and died 1927 in Iowa.


ii. Thomas Bonaparte "Boney" Dean, was born June 1855 in Johnson County, Iowa; died May 17, 1938 in Marion County, Oregon.  He married (2nd) Henrietta Doering 1883 in Iowa, the daughter of Joseph Doering and Rachel Diddy. She was born on 16 June 1865 in Winfield Township, Lake, Indiana, and died unknown.


iii. Mary Ellen "Ellen" Dean, was born 7 December 1856 in Johnson County, Iowa; died 0n 19 December 1915 in Kingsley, Plymouth County, Iowa.  She married George W. Kinzey in 1876 in Iowa.  He was born 10 February 1850 in Pennsylvania, and died on 14 October 1933 in Kingsley, Plymouth County, Iowa.


iv. Clay Henry Dean, was born on 21 August 1860 in Jefferson Township, Johnson County, Iowa; died 7 November 1938 in Sioux City, Woodbury County, Iowa.  He married (15.1.14.5/15.8.5.5) Celinda "Linda" Jane Sager, the daughter of Eli Orrin Sager and Edna Ann Harrison, on January 23, 1884 in Plymouth County, Iowa.  She was born 11 August 1860 in Climax Township, Kalamazoo County, Michigan, and died on 16 March 1929 in Sioux City, Woodbury County, Iowa.


v. Benjamin Franklin Dean, was born in October 1863 in Johnson County, Iowa; died 5 July 1924 in Sioux City, Woodbury County, Iowa.  He married Rosa M. (unknown) in 1896 in Iowa. She was born in June 1860 in Switzerland, and died unknown.


vi. Lillian Jane "Lillie" Dean, was born 13 October 1865 in Cedar Rapids, Johnson County, Iowa; died 22 April 1902 in Banner Township, Woodbury County, Iowa.  She married (15.8.9) Benjamin Carter Harrison on 19 June 1880 in Sioux City, Woodbury County, Iowa.  He was born on 27 June 1846 in Climax Township, Kalamazoo County, Michigan, and died July 27, 1892 in Clarinda, Page County, Iowa.  Ben was the son of (15.8) Alexander Jordan Harrison I and Elizabeth Jane "Bett" Roe.


vii. Huldah "Hulley" Dean, was born on 26 May 1867 in Johnson County, Iowa; died on 16 October 1916 in Sioux City, Woodbury County, Iowa.  She married Ozias C. "Oat" Ford April 30, 1891 in Woodbury County, Iowa. He was born in February 1863 in Kalamazoo County, Michigan, and died in about 1937 in Kaycee, Johnson County, Wyoming.  Ozias was the younger brother of Ashton Edward Ford who was married to (15.8.7.3) Orpha Ann (Van De Bogart) Ford, daughter of Margaret Harrison and James Van De Bogart, and their younger brother, Charley Ford, was married to (15.8.5.2.5/15.1.14.2.5) Bertha Wright Ford.


viii. Mahala "Halley" Dean, was born in September 1871 in Johnson County, Iowa; died on 24 October 1937 in Sioux City, Woodbury County, Iowa.  She married (15.4.6.8) Frank W. Harrison in 1888 in Plymouth County, Iowa.  Frank was born on 11 July 1870, in Climax Township, Kalamazoo County, Michigan and died on 25 November 1943, in Sioux City, Woodbury County, Iowa.  He was the son of Michael "Mike" Harrison and Julia May Johnson.  Mike the son of Joseph William Harrison II and Lydia Ann Roe.


ix. Maud Dean, was born on 4 June 1874 in Johnson County, Iowa;  died on 1 May 1882 in Plymouth County, Iowa, during a cholera epidemic.  She is buried in Lincoln Township Cemetery, in Plymouth County, Iowa.


x. Perley Dean, was born on 30 March 1877 in Johnson County, Iowa; died on 9 August 1894 in Plymouth County, Iowa.  She married a Soule; Perley died while giving birth to her first child.  Burial in Lincoln Township Cemetery, in Plymouth County, Iowa.  The Soule she married was a grandson of (15.9) Elizabeth Roxena Harrison and Aaron David Soule I.
