Children of Abraham Merle Sager I and (1st) Mehitable Powers:
Anna Maria was the daughter of George Washington Selby I and Margaret “Peggy” Roe (daughter of Jeremiah Roe I and his first wife, Jane Grove).
According to the 1870 Federal Census, Wakeshma Twp., Kalamazoo County, Michigan (page 16) #133, Israel (recorded as "J.P."), age 20, born Michigan, was living in his father’s household with his step mother, Elizabeth, age 30, born in Michigan and children: Elliott, age 16, Sarah, age 15, Altono [sic, Altana], age 13, Mehitable, age 11 and Hannah, age 3, all born in Michigan. Later that year he married Anna Maria.
Abraham Sager’s family is one of the earliest settlers in Plymouth County, Iowa. The first permanent settler was Abraham’s first cousin, (15.9.7) Galon Soule in 1867. Galon sent glowing details and this prompted several land hunting trips by many family members. Abraham is advertised in 1864 in Kalamazoo County as a mill owner. There is a notation in early Plymouth County, Iowa history that he was there in the late 1867 to assist with the building of the mill located on the Floyd River bank outside of Hinton, Iowa. Galon was Abraham’s second wife, Elizabeth’s younger brother, and he also became Abraham’s son-in-law when he married his daughter, Sarah. Both Abraham and son, Israel Sager appear in 1874 tax index, and in 1875:
“Israel P. Sager appeared on tax list, Lincoln Twp., Plymouth Co., IA, on Section 19.”In the 1880 Federal Census, of Lincoln Township, Plymouth County, Iowa, page 11, 143 C, recorded on 19 June:

Galon was named in honor of his father’s brother, Galon Soule, who married Mary “Polly” Bell on 25 Mar 1837, in Union County, Ohio.
Hinton History records the following:
“Galon Soule, having faithfully served in the Union ranks during the Civil War, came to Sioux City in 1867, and within the next year homesteaded in section 20 of Lincoln Township. Four years later he married and later located in section 18. There was a sod house on this section that was built in 1867, by John Barrett.”Galon and Sarah’s marriage is recorded in early Plymouth County records, however, there is also a record at Calhoun County, Michigan for “Galen Soule and Sarah Sager on December 26th, 1873.” And then again 7 Jan 1874, Lincoln Twp., Plymouth Co., Iowa, by William Peron, justice of the peace. The explanation behind this is that they were first married in Michigan, and immediately made the journey to Iowa, where they wed again so that the rest of the family could partake of the celebration. The second record probably should not have been filed, but evidently was.
Galon married his cousin's daughter, Sarah Sager. Sarah's father, (15.1.10) Abraham Merle Sager I was an early settler of the Hinton area. An interesting relationship developed as Galon's older sister, (15.9.4) Elizabeth "Libby" Soule was married to Abraham Sager I, so Galon's sister was also his mother-in-law and Sarah's father was also her brother-in-law. Sarah and Galon were extremely close to Keg Harrison's family. Keg's son, (15.8.12.2) Victor Olan Harrison married the Soule's daughter (15.1.10.4.2/15.9.7.2) Daisy Electa Soule. Relationships became even more confusing when Victor and Daisy's daughter, (15.1.10.4.2.3/15.9.7.2.3/15.8.12.2.2) Gladys Elizabeth Harrison married (15.1.10.6.4.2) James Frank Gardner. (James was the grandson of (15.1.10.6) Mehitable Francina (Sager) Gardner (daughter of Abraham Sager I). To further complicate issues after Gladys passed away, James Gardner married Lois McNichols. Lois' great grandmother was (15.1.10.7) Altana Amanda Sager Ireton Myers (daughter of Abraham Sager I). Altana's daughter (15.1.10.7.1) Jessie Leona Ireton was married to Hiram Selby (son of Joseph Selby). All of these families comprised the Gordon, Nebraska settlement, extremely unique and distant relatives living in a settlement together. Some were already 3rd and 4th cousins by this generation. Some of these folks met up and joined the Oregon and Washington settlements. Galon and Sarah remained in the Harrisonville settlement and served as the hub of the family, spending a lot of time with Keg and Celia Harrison. They really worked to preserve the family colonies. Sarah lived to be 90, and was spry and her great great grandchildren with family tales and would even through in the occasional somersault or cartwheel to get their full of tales until her dying day. She was out on the lawn entertaining attention.
In the 1870 Federal Census Galon Soule was recorded in Lincoln Township, Plymouth Co., Iowa.
The 1880 Federal Census of Lincoln Twp., Plymouth Co., Iowa listed: #89-95; Galon Soule, 37, farmer, b. OH NY OH, a farmer; Wife, Sarah, 24, keeping house, b. MI OH MI; Lida, 5, and Herbert, 3, both born Iowa. Living next door #93-96 was Sarah’s brother, Israel Sager family, #88-94 Galon’s cousin, Oren Sager family; as well as his uncle, Fred Harrison and family, and cousin, Keg Harrison.
Galon appears in the 1885 Military Census for Iowa Soldiers, Sailors, and Marines. It states that he enlisted in the 23rd Infantry of Indiana, Company A, a private, and his current post office address was James, Iowa.

Abraham Sager married (2nd) his cousin, (15.9.4) Elizabeth Roxena "Libby" Soule. Libby was born on 7 June 1839, in Climax Township, Kalamazoo County, Michigan, and died on 7 June 1919, in Climax Township, Kalamazoo County, Michigan. She is buried in Harrison Cemetery, in Climax Township, Kalamazoo County, Michigan. "Libby" cared for her cousin, Abraham Sager I's children after the death of his first wife Mehitable Powers. A short time later they married and Abraham was in Harrisonville, (Hinton) Iowa as early as 1867. He wandered the west and called Iowa home, although he made frequent trips and the mass movement of relatives began in 1874. Relatives visited the Montana settlement as early as 1850, but this did not take hold until the late 1890s. Once Libby's brother, Galon Soule settled in Harrisonville in 1867, more family members began to entertain the idea of moving to a new settlement. Galon is considered the first permanent settler of Harrisonville. Abraham’s family was influential in Gordon, Nebraska, or at least made treks there as his children settled there. Abraham's children from his first marriage and second marriage were a part of most of the Harrison settlements. Abraham and Libby later returned to Michigan. Abraham's children and grandchildren were a part of the Kalispell, Montana movement in the 1900s. It is interesting that Abraham's son, (15.1.10.3) Frederick Elliott Sager married Henrietta "Etta" Peron, they had one son, (15.1.10.3.1) Ira Sager. After the death of Frederick, Etta remarried and her daughter, Mary Myrtle Cardwell married (15.1.10.3.9/ 15.9.4.3) Abraham Merle "Merle" Sager II. This really is another example of the clannishness and undefined relationships. Abraham I's sons married a mother and daughter. (15.1.10.1) Israel Powers Sager married Anna Maria Selby (they were also instrumental in Harrisonville, Gordon and Kalispell) There are many other complex relationships in this branch of the family.
