Descendants of Ephraim Harrison and Isabelle Springer.  Ephraim was the son of Nathan Harrison and Anna Botkin.  Many thanks to Earle Swift who compiled and contributed the Swift family data.


        
Ephraim Harrison, son of Nathan and Anna (Botkin) Harrison and his wife Isabelle (Springer) Harrison.  Submitted by Mildred Wambold.

Ephraim and Isabelle settled in Lake County, California and did some mining around the Middletown area.  Cathy Gowdy's transcription of the 1870 Census--

In 1880 Ephraim and Isabelle were living in Knox Township, Napa County, Anna or Annie, was 18 years old and their son Marvin was now 15.  Cathy also located Ephraim's obituary and death record, from the Napa Daily Journal, Napa, Napa County, California, Friday, December 9, 1910:

"Passed Away Ephraim Harrison  Died Thursday at Berryessa Valley Residence

Ephraim  Harrison, an aged and  highly respected resident of Berryessa valley, died suddenly Thursday morning at his home.  He was 87 years of age, and leaves a widow and two children, the children being Marvin Harrison of Tuolumne county and Mrs. W.T. Swift of Napa.  A Coroner's Inquest was held on the remains. It is believed that the death of the deceased was due to heart disease."

Mrs. Harrison Dies Following Illness

"Mrs. Isabelle Harrison, a resident of Napa and Lake  counties for over half a century, passed away at her home, 529 Jefferson street, this  city, at 8:15 o'clock Wednesday night.  She had been
ill for about six weeks.

Mrs. Harrison was born near Niles City, in Van Buren county, [sic, Niles, which is actually in Berrien County is about thirty miles from Hartford, Van Buren County where the Springer family was recorded in 1850] Michigan,  August 6, 1842, so she would have been 80 years old next month, she came with her parents in an ox team, across the plains, in 1851. In 1861 she became the wife of Ephraim Harrison, in Sacramento. They afterward removed to Lake county, later coming to Napa county. She is survived by a son, Marvin W. Harrison, of Lake county, and by a daughter, Mrs. W. T. Swift of Napa; by two brothers, George and Nelson Springer of Oregon; and by 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.  Arrangements will be made for the funeral later."

Ephraim Harrison and Isabelle Springer children were:


13.5.6.1 Annie Laurie Harrison, was born on 2 January 1862 and died according to the California Death Index, 1930-1939:

"Annie  L. Swift died at the age of 70 years in Napa County, on November 7, 1932."
Annie's obituary appeared in the Napa Daily Journal, on 7 November 1932.  Annie married William Thomas Swift, the son of Granville P. Swift and Eliza Jane Tate.  William T. Swift died in 1941, his obituary appeared in the Napa Journal on 5 February 1941.  Annie and William are both buried in Spanish Flat Cemetery.

In the 1870 Federal Census of Green Valley Township, Solano County, California, page # 11, William is listed in the household of his parents at age ten.  In the 1880 Federal Census, William, now age 20, along with his brother Perry G., age 17, was again found living in Green Valley Township, in the household of his father's sister, Mary Jones.

From Napa County Marriages 1850-1905 compiled by Napa Valley Genealogical and Biographical Society [Cathy Gowdy double checked this at the Recorder's Office] Napa County Marriage Book B, page 299:

and Annie Laurie Harrison,  age 18, born California were married May 4, 1881  by John C. Hale, J.P. in Knox Twp., Napa County, California.

In 1900 the Swift's were living in Knox Township, Napa County, California, ED# 90, sheet 4A, enumerated on the 11th and 12th of June (Wm. and Annie both stated that they had been married for 19 years; Annie stated that she had given birth to 5 living children):

13.5.6.1 Ethelyn Irene Swift, was born on 14 November 1883 in Napa County, California.  She married Walter S. Green, he was born in about 1882 in Texas.  In the 1910 Federal Census, just after their marriage, Ethelyn and Walter were enumerated in the 1910 Federal Census of Placerville Township, El Dorado County, California, ED# 25, sheet 17B.  Walter listed his age as 24 and his occupation as a "miner".  Ethelyn was age 26, they had no children in 1910.  In the 1920 Federal Census of Chimiles, Napa County, California, ED# 44, sheet 4B, their household listed:

Walter Green must have died prior to the 1930 census, Ethelyn is listed as widowed, living next door to her parents in the 1930 Federal Census of Napa, Napa County, California, ED# 7, sheet 1A.  The children listed in the home were: Malcom S., age 19; Larry D., age 13; and Walter T. , age 4; all the children were born in California.  Their children were:

13.5.6.1.1 Elwin Shannon Green.


13.5.6.1.2 Malcom Swift Green, was born on 8 December 1910 in California and died on 29 August 1985 in Napa County, California.  He married Reva Decker (Decker is listed as her middle name in the California Death Index), she died on 2 January 1979 in Napa County, California.


13.5.6.1.3 Larry Dale Green, was born on 12 November 1918 in California and died in 1999.  He married Gertrude Conley.


13.5.6.1.4 Walter Thomas Green, was born on 21 July 1925 in California.


13.5.6.1 Gladys Perrine Swift, was born in April 1886 in California.  The California Death Index listed her as Gladys P. Clark, birthplace California, date of birth 11 April 1886, date of death listed as 16 September 1962 in Napa County, California, her mother's maiden name is listed as "Harrison".  Herman F. Clark was born on 30 March 1886 in California and died on 17 January 1974 in Napa County, California.  In the 1920 Federal Census of Chimiles, Napa County, California, ED# 44, sheet 4B, their household listed (they lived just 8 households away from her sister Ethelyn (Swift) Green):

In the 1930 Federal Census of Knox Township, Napa County, California, ED# 4, sheet 2A, his name was recorded as H. Foster Clark, age 44, occupation "fruit farmer".  Gladys was now age 43, their son Kenneth C,, age 22, occupation laborer on a "fruit farm" was the only child still at home.  Their children were:

 13.5.6.1.1 Kenneth C. Clark, was born on 8 May 1908 in California and died in 2001.  Kenneth married Marjorie Hearn, she was born on 11 May 1910.


13.5.6.1.2 Lilburn Swift Clark, was born on 12 March 1909 and died in 2002.  He married Harriet Plunkett, she was born in about 1909.


13.5.6.1.3 Cordelia Clark, was born on 23 March 1910 in California and died on 20 January 1993 in Napa, California.  She married Robert Palmby Manasse, he was born on 1 June 1905 in California and died on 1 July 1990 in Napa, California, his mother's maiden name was recorded as "Hoffman".  His parents were Edward and Anna Manasse, they were listed a few households above his in the 1930 census (he was listed as their son in their household in the 1920 census).  In the 1930 Federal Census of Napa, Napa County, California, ED# 8, sheet 6A their household listed (Robert stated that he was married at age 23; Cordelia stated that she was age 19 at the time of her marriage):

13.5.6.1 Marvin Harrison Swift, was born in March 1890 in California.  Marvin was living in Napa Township, Napa County, California ED# 5, sheet 1B, in the 1930 Federal Census.  His wife's name is difficult to make out--I read it as Cordelia in 1920, it looks like Dehlia in 1930, Marvin listed his occupation as a "drayman".  Marvin is listed in the California Death Index, date of birth 3 March 1890; date of death 12 February 1964 in Napa, California; his mother's maiden name listed as "Harrison".  Delia A. Swift is also listed in the California Death Index, her date of birth is listed as 7 April 1896 in California, date of death listed as 4 September 1991, in Napa County, California, at age 95 years.  Her father's last name is listed as "Hill" her mother's maiden name is shown as "Long".


13.5.6.1 Juanita Swift, was born on 12 May 1892 in California and died on 2 March 1974 in Sonoma, California.  Juanita married Stanley S. Bidwell, the California Death Index gives his date of birth as 27 August 1895 and his date of death as 28 September 1977 in Lake County, California.  In the 1930 Federal Census of Healdsburg Township, Sonoma County, california, ED# 23, sheet 3A their household listed (Juanita stated that she was age 26 at the time of her marriage; Stanley stated that he was age 23):

13.5.6.1.2 Harrison Stanley Bidwell, was born on 10 May 1922 in California.

13.5.6.1 Isabel Elsie Swift, was born on 21 July 1894 in California and died on 28 July 1967 in Shasta County, California, the California Death Index lists her mother's maiden name as "Harrison".  Isabel married Paul R. Sperry , Paul may have fudged his date of birth to join the Navy, in the 1910 Federal Census he was listed as age 19, a Seaman aboard the USS West Virginia, in a shipyard in Solano County, California, ED# 3, sheet 3A.  He gave his place of birth as Nebraska, his father's place of birth as Connecticut and his mother's place of birth as Pennsylvania.  In the 1930 Federal Census of Calistoga Township, Napa County, California, ED# 1, sheet 10A their household listed ("P.R." stated that he was age 33 at the time of his marriage; Isabel stated that she was age 27):

13.5.6.1.1 Pauline Sperry, was born on 11 March 1924 in California.

13.5.6.2 Marvin Wesley Harrison, was born in November 1864 in California and died according to the California Death Index, 1930-1939:
"Marvin W. Harrison died at the age of 72 years in Lake county, on June 14, 1937"

In the 1900 Federal Census of Lower Lake Township, Lake County, California, ED# 43, sheet 9B, enumerated on the 20th-22nd of June, Marvin and his wife Madge, stated that they had been married for only one month.  They were living just a few households away from his parents.  Madge gave her birth data as August 1874 in Iowa, she gave her father's birthplace as Wisconsin and her mother's birthplace as Illinois.  Madge listed her occupation as a schoolteacher.  She was actually enumerated twice in 1900, she was also recorded as single, age 25, born in August 1874 in Iowa, in the household of her parents, Andrew and Margaret Everett, in Township Four, Lake County, ED# 46, 6B, the census was taken on the 7th of June.

In the 1910 Federal Census They were enumerated in Georgetown Township, El Dorado County, California, ED# 20, sheet 5B (both Marvin and Madge stated that this was their first marriage and that they had been married for 9 years; Madge stated that she had given birth to 2 living children; living in the household adjacent to Marvin and Madge, was the household of Andrew and Margaret J. Everett):

In the 1930 Federal Census of Guinda Township, Yolo County, California, ED# 5, sheet 4B, Marvin was now age 64, he listed his occupation as a "miner" for "quicksilver", Madge was age 55, and teaching in a public school, still living at home was their youngest son, Vince, now age 15.  Madge Harrison died in 1955, her obituary dated Thursday, 13 January copied from The Mountain Democrat in Placerville (she is not listed in the California Death Index):

Madge Harrison

Services were held at Lower Lake Sunday at 2 p.m. for Madge Harrison.  She and her husband, the late Marvin Harrison, once owned property near Meadowbrook.  Mrs. Harrison leaves two sons, Vern and Vince of Oregon, and was the mother of the late Ruby Snyder [sic, Snider].

Their three children were:
13.5.6.2.1 Ruby Annabelle Harrison, was born on 2 April 1901 in California.  Ruby is listed in the California Death Index as Ruby Annabelle Snider, date and place of death listed as 10 October 1952 in El Dorado County.  Her mother's maiden name is listed as Everett and her father's surname listed as Harrison.  In the 1920 Federal Census "Rubie" and her husband, John L. Gardner, were recorded in Westwood Township, Lassen County, California (ED# 36, sheet 14A), the census was recorded on the 22nd and 23rd of January.  They had no children, John, age 22 listed his occupation as a carpenter for a lumber company "Rubie" was 18 and not working.

Her obituary dated 16 October 1952, copied from The Mountain Democrat in Placerville:

Services Held Monday For Mrs. Ruby Snider

    "Graveside services were conducted in the Georgetown Cemetery Monday fro Mrs. Ruby Annabelle Snider, 51 who died in the County Hospital Friday.  The Rev. W.L. Asher officiated.

    Born April 2, 1901 in Reiff, Calif., Mrs. Snider was engaged in ranching in the Georgetown area where she had lived for 41 years.

    She is survived by a daughter Blanche Stroop of Garden Valley, two sons, Stannard Gardner of Sun Valley, Calif., and Everett Gardner of San Francisco, two brothers, Verne and Vince Harrison and her mother, Madge Harrison all of Lower Lake."


13.5.6.2.2 Verne Harrison, was born in about 1904 in California.  There is a Verne Harrison listed in the California Death Index, date of birth listed as 24 September 1903, date of death listed as 10 May 1970, age at death 66 years, place of death Lake County, California.


13.5.6.2.3 Vince L. Harrison, was born on 20 February 1915 in California and died on 5 June 1993 last residence listed as Rochester, Thurston County, Washington (SSN Death Index).
