William "Uncle Billy" Harrison was the oldest son of Bazel and Martha (Stillwell) Harrison.  Listed below are the descendants of his daughter, Olive Harrison.  William "Uncle Billy" Harrison's second wife, America Harrison was the daughter of Joseph Harrison I and Bathsheba Oglesby.  Silas Tupper was the son of Nelson Admiral Tupper and Lorena Judith Lockwood.  Family data was contributed by Justin Herbst, Irene Townsend, Loraine Washburn, Roeberta Shingledecker, Dean and Karen Fisher, Marie Mackey and Christine Sheridan.

(13.1.10.1/15.6.7.1) Spencer Tupper, was born in August 1867 in Kalamazoo County, Michigan.  After his father's death, Spencer (his name is recorded as William S. in the 1870 Federal Census) was living and working on the William and Harriet Bellows farm in Climax in the 1880 Federal Census, at age 12.  Spencer married Lena Mattison, in 1893, in Kalamazoo County (Book 5, page 215, # 2198).  In the 1900 Federal Census of Galesburg, Comstock Township, Kalamazoo County, Michigan, ED# 107, the Spencer Tupper household consisted of (both Spencer and Lena stated that they had been married for 7 years; Lena stated that she had given birth to 2 living children):

In 1900, Lena stated that her father was born in Vermont and her was born in Michigan.

In the 1910 Federal Census of Climax Township, ED# 125, their household listed (Lena also stated that she had given birth to 2 living children, which matched the 1900 census, they stated that this was their first marriage and that they had been married for 17 years):

In the 1920 Federal Census of Charleston Township, Spencer, age 52, occupation "farmer", and his wife Lena, age 52, born in Michigan, were living next door to his aunt and uncle, John John S. and Ellen Harrison with no children in the household.  His abstracted obituary, from the Kalamazoo Gazette, dated 22 August 1938, contained the following information:

"Spencer Tupper--71 years old, death in Wakeshma Township.  He was always a farmer, dying on the farm he was born on.  His wife died three years previous, leaves two daughters: Mrs. Charles Elliott, of Battle Creek and Mrs. Warren Wulf, at home.  Three grandchildren, two great grandchildren: a brother George Tupper, of Galesburg, a sister Mrs. Lena Carl, of Kalamazoo, Michigan.  Burial in Prairie Home Cemetery, Climax."

(13.1.10.1.1/15.6.7.1.1) Sarah Estella Tupper, born on 4 December 1893.  Sarah married (1st) Donald Allen and (2nd) Charles Elliot.  Donald and "Stella" were living in Battle Creek, Calhoun County ED# 50, in the 1920 Federal Census (Mary A. Allen looks to be Donald's sister, however, the relationship is unreadable):

Donald and Stella were not living together in the 1930 census.  "Estella", in the 1930 census, now age 35, stated that she was married at age 17, and was boarding in the household of Frank and Florence Cooper, in Emmett Township, Calhoun County, ED# 45, page 2A.  She listed her marital status as divorced, occupation listed as a "wrapper" in a factory.  Their daughter, Alice M., now age 15, was listed as an "inmate" in the "House of the Good Shepherd", in Grand Rapids, Kent County, Michigan, ED# 4, page 2B.  Sarah Estella, must have remarried before 1938, in her father's obituary her name is listed as Mrs. Charles Elliot.


(13.1.10.1.2/15.6.7.1.2) Alice Tupper, born in January 1896.  Alice married Warren Wulf.  In the 1920 Federal Census of Battle Creek, ED# 57, 38 Beardsley St.:

(13.1.10.2/15.6.7.2) William Nelson Tupper, born in October 1868 in Kalamazoo County, Michigan and died in 1932.  He married Viania, she was born in about 1872 and died in 1948.  They are both buried in Oak Grove Cemetery, in Comstock Township, Galesburg, Michigan.

The Tupper's were listed in the 1910 Federal Census of Kalamazoo, Kalamazoo County, Michigan, ED# 153, sheet 12A, living in what looks to be the same home (with a separate apartment) with his sister Lorena Carl (see below).  In 1910 their household, #272 of 285, listed: "William M.", age 42, (both William and Viania stated that they had been married for 20 years and that this was their first marriage), birthplace Michigan, parents birthplace listed as Michigan, occupation listed as a "Janitor" "at School".  "Viania", age 37, stated that she had given birth to two children, one of whom was still living, her birthplace was listed as Michigan, her parents were both listed as born in England.  Their son, Howard T., age 17, was still at home, no occupation listed (--note: next door in household #273 of 287 were living: Alonzo D. and Margaret S. Harrison (grandson of Elias Stillwell Harrison), ages 51 and 55 respectively, both born in Michigan, married for 30 years, his father's birthplace listed as Michigan, mother's place of birth listed as New York, her parents listed as both born in New York, his occupation was listed as a laborer in an [unreadable] factory; she stated that she had given birth to two living children; with their son "Irvin J.D.", age 20, no occupation listed).

Ten years later in the 1920 Federal Census, the Tupper's were living in Niles, Berrien County, Michigan, ED# 98, at 122 North State St.: William, age 48, occupation "plumber"; Viania, wife, age 46; Howard T., son, age 27, single, "grocer".  Their two children were:

(13.1.10.2.1/15.6.7.2.1) Leona Tupper, was born on 14 March 1891 and died on 19 July 1900.  She is buried in Oak Grove Cemetery.


(13.1.10.2.2/15.6.7.2.2) Howard Thomas Tupper   was born on 26 August 1892 in Climax, Michigan and died in June 1969, he is buried in Portage Central Cemetery.  Howard served in WW I and first appears living on his own in the 1930 Federal Census of Kalamazoo, ED# 41, living at 2307 East Main St., age 37, occupation "clerk" in a "furniture store".  His wife was Martha M., age 34, born in Michigan, they had no children in 1930.  Howard had two sons, William and Richard, both were mentioned in his obituary published in the Kalamazoo Gazette on 7 June 1969.  Martha M. Tupper was born on 11 September 1895 and died in Portage, Kalamazoo County, Michigan on died on 8 January 1989 (Michigan Death Index 1971-1996).


(13.1.10.3/15.6.7.3) George Tupper, born in August 1870 in Kalamazoo County, Michigan.  After his father's death, George was living in the household of his aunt and uncle, John S. and Ellen Harrison in the 1880 Federal Census of Brady Township.  In the 1900 Federal Census of Charleston Township, George, age 29, occupation "farm laborer", was living with "Estela", his bride of only three months.  Estela, age 20, gave her date of birth as September 1879, and place of birth as Michigan.

In the 1910 Federal Census of Galesburg Village, Charleston Township, Kalamazoo County, Michigan, ED# 124, sheet 1A, address listed as East Main Street (house numbers not recorded; both George and Grace stated that this was their first marriage and that they had been married for 10 years; Grace stated that she had given birth to 2 living children):

In the 1930 Federal Census of Galesburg, ED# 5, he is shown as Geo. E., age 59, occupation "foreman", "flour mill", her name is recorded as "Grace E.".  Still living in the home were "Bethel G.", age 16 and "Bernice A.", age 26, occupation "clerical work" in a "drug factory".  George and Grace are both buried in Oak Grove Cemetery in Galesburg, Michigan.  Their three known daughters were:

(13.1.10.4/15.6.7.4) Lorena "Rena" Tupper, was born in about 1873 in Kalamazoo County, Michigan.  She married Elmer Carl on 22 August 1890, in Kalamazoo, Kalamazoo County, Michigan.  Elmer was born in about 1868 in Michigan, the son of Samuel Carl and Frances Wealthy.  The Carl's are listed in the 1910 Federal Census of Kalamazoo, Kalamazoo County, Michigan, ED# 153, sheet 12A, living in what looks to be the same home (with a separate apartment) with her oldest brother and his wife, William and Viania Tupper.  In 1910 their household listed (Carl and Lorena both stated that this was their first marriage and that they had been married for 22 years, Lorena stated that she had given birth to 1 living child) the address is not readable, the street is Terrace Court:

The Carl's were listed in the 1920 Federal Census of Kalamazoo City, Kalamazoo County, ED# 174, sheet 16A, address was listed as 1012 Portage St., Elmer, age 53, listed his occupation as a "woodworker" in an "Automobile Co." (the days before plastic!)  and Lorena was now 47 years old.  In 1930, Kalamazoo, ED# 33, sheet 13A, the Carl's were now living at 625 Portage Rd.: "Elmer E.", was age 62 and was working as a "Janitor" in a Hospital, "Lorena J.", was now age 57.

Their son was:

(13.1.10.4.1/15.6.7.4.1) James A. Carl   was born in about 1893 in Michigan and served in WW I.  His name and photo appear in the "Honor Roll of Kalamazoo County" as:
"James A Carl, PVT Co. 'C', 315th Signal Battalion, 90th Division; son of Elmer & Lorena Carl, husband of Irma W. Carl; born on July 29 1892, in Climax; entered service, on April 4, 1918 at Kalamazoo; sent to Ft Leavenworth, assigned to 9th Depot Battalion; overseas in Argonne Forest; mustered out June 25 1919, Camp Custer."
In the 1920 Federal Census of Kalamazoo, Kalamazoo County, Michigan, ED# 174, sheet 9B, address listed as 825 Portage St., was listed his household as: James, age 27, born in Michigan, occupation "Laborer" in a "Spring Factory"; Irma, wife, age 28, born in Michigan, listed her father's birthplace as Michigan and her mother's birthplace as Indiana; and son Maurice, age 2 years and 1 month.

In the 1930 Federal Census of Kalamazoo, ED# 35, sheet 15B, James now age 37 and Irma, age 38, were living at 608 Melrose St., with their children: Maurice, a son, age 12; Jean, a daughter, age 9; and Roger, a son, age 3 years and 8 months.  James was employed as a "Manager" at a "Furniture Store".

James Carl is listed in the SSN# Death Index, date of birth listed as 29 July 1892, date and place of death listed as January 1976 in Tucson, Pima County, Arizona.  Irma Carl is also listed in the SSN# Death Index, date of birth listed as 29 December 1891, date and place of death listed as January 1970, Tucson, Pima County, Arizona [another researcher lists Irma's maiden name as "Whitmore"].


(13.1.10.5/15.6.7.5) Ellen Tupper,  a twin, was born in August 1874.  Ellen's date of death was recorded as 13 December 1874, date of record 4 June 1875.  Her age was shown as 3 months 25 days (Michigan Death Index 1867-1884).


(13.1.10.5/15.6.7.6) Allen Tupper, a twin, was born in August 1874.  Allen's date of death was recorded in Kalamazoo County as 26 December 1874, date of record 4 June 1875.  His age was shown as 4 months and 4 days.


(13.1.10.6/15.6.7.7) America Tupper, was born in about 1876 in Kalamazoo County, Michigan.  America was actually enumerated twice in the 1880 Federal Census; once in her uncle Joseph's household with her mother, and again in her uncle Alex's household in Climax, with her sister Rena.  Marie Mackey located America's marriage in Kalamazoo County, Michigan:

Henry, age 51, and America, age 44 were both listed in the 1920 Federal Census of 5th Ward, Kalamazoo City, Kalamazoo County, Michigan, ED# 176, sheet 12A, at the same Portage Street address.  Henry listed his occupation as a foreman at a grain elevator, their son, Fred, age 27 was single and listed his occupation as a bookkeeper at a grain elevator.  Their daughter, Pauline E., was age 16.

America died in 1925, Henry was living with his son, Fred in the 1930 census (see below).  Henry lived to be about 76, he was buried on 12 April 1945.  They are both buried in Riverview Cemetery in Kalamazoo, Michigan, with their son Allan.

Their children were:

Lanko   was born in November 1892 in Kalamazoo (the California Death Index lists his date of birth as the 20th and his obituary listed his date of birth as the 30th), Michigan and died on 7 August 1951 in North Hollywood, California.  He was a Veteran of WW I, and is listed in the "Honor Roll of Kalamazoo County" as:
"Fred Lanko, Sgt. 291 Aero Sqdn.; son of Henry C. and America Lanko; born Nov. 20, 1892 Battle Creek, Mich.; ent. serv. Dec. 14, 1917; sent Columbus Bks; tsfd. Cmp. Grant; assigned 161 D. Brig.; tsfd. Kelly Field; Rockwell Field, assigned 291 Aero Sqdn.; in charge of Engineering and Filing Dept.; mustered out Mar. 24 1919, Cmp. Custer."
Fred and his wife Edith were enumerated in Climax Village, Kalamazoo County, Michigan, ED# 7, sheet 1A in the 1930 Federal Census, address listed as 225 Maple Street:

Aug 7 1951 at his home in North Hollywood.  He was born Nov. 30 1892 in Kalamazoo.  The son of Henry and America Tupper Lanko.  He was former owner of Climax Milling & member of Climax Masonic Lodge & Methodist Church of North Hollywood.  In 1920 he married Edith Campbell, who passed July 22 1946.  He married Mrs. Gladys Sebert of Kalamazoo, June 18 1947.  Surviving besides wife, Gladys are three daughters, Miss Betty Lou Lanko of Chicago, Mrs. Juliana Watts of Kalamazoo & Mrs. Audrey Stofer of Burbank, California & one sister, Mrs. Pauline Loughridge of Scotts, four grandchildren.  Funeral arrangements by Burk & Hoag funeral  Home, Climax.  Funeral Services from Climax Methodist Church, Rev. Charles Hulbert, Portage Street Methodist Church, officiating.  Burial in Prairie Home Cemetery, Climax."

Edith died in 1946, she and Fred are both buried in Prairie Home Cemetery in Climax, Michigan.  Fred's second wife, Gladys (Sebert) Lanko is listed in the California Death Index, date of birth listed as 25 August 1895, date of death listed as 5 February 1990, mother's maiden name listed as Prebbie, father's surname listed as Moore.  From census data and his obituary, their daughter's were:
(13.1.10.6.1.1/15.6.7.7.1.1) Betty L. Lanko, was born on 14 October 1924 and died on 4 February 1983 in Kalamazoo County, Michigan (Michigan Death Index 1971-1996).  She is buried in Prairie Home Cemetery in Climax, Kalamazoo County, Michigan.


(13.1.10.6.1.2/15.6.7.7.1.2) Julieann Lanko, listed as Mrs. Juliana Watts of Kalamazoo in her father's obituary in 1951.  Julieann was born on 12 April 1927 and died on 18 June 1989 in Kalamazoo County, Michigan (Michigan Death Index 1971-1996).

Audrey Stofer, listed as a daughter in Fred Lanko's obituary in 1951, was Fred Lanko's step-daughter, not his daughter.  She was Gladys (Moore) Sebert Lanko's daughter by her first husband, Fred Sebert (1930 Federal Census and the California Death Index).


(13.1.10.6.2/15.6.7.7.2) Allan Lanko, was born in February 1896 in Climax Township, Kalamazoo County, Michigan (Kalamazoo County Births, Book 4, page 278) and died in 1915 in Kalamazoo City, Kalamazoo County, Michigan.  He is buried with his parents in Riverview Cemetery in Kalamazoo.


(13.1.10.6.3/15.6.7.7.3) Pauline Evangeline Lanko, born in 1903 in Galesburg, Kalamazoo County, Michigan.  In the 1930 Federal Census of  2nd Ward, Kalamazoo City, Kalamazoo County, Michigan, ED# 17, sheet 2B, Pauline was     single and boarding in the David and Helena Gilbert household at 479 West Michigan Avenue.  She listed her     occupation as a public school teacher.  She is listed as "Mrs. Pauline Loughridge of Scotts" in her brother Fred's obituary in 1951.  She is listed in the SSN# Death Index as Pauline Loughridge, date of birth 14 April 1903, date of death listed as 16 October 1993, last residence listed as 60195  Schaumburg, Cook [County], Illinois, issued in Michigan (note--there is a Samuel Loughridge listed in the SSN# Death Index, date of birth listed as 25 May 1896, date of death listed as February 1970 in Scotts, Kalamazoo County, Michigan).
