In the 1920 Federal Census of Charleston Township, Spencer, age 52, occupation "farmer", and his wife Lena, age 52, born in Michigan, were living next door to his aunt and uncle, John John S. and Ellen Harrison with no children in the household. His abstracted obituary, from the Kalamazoo Gazette, dated 22 August 1938, contained the following information:
"Spencer Tupper--71 years old, death in Wakeshma Township. He was always a farmer, dying on the farm he was born on. His wife died three years previous, leaves two daughters: Mrs. Charles Elliott, of Battle Creek and Mrs. Warren Wulf, at home. Three grandchildren, two great grandchildren: a brother George Tupper, of Galesburg, a sister Mrs. Lena Carl, of Kalamazoo, Michigan. (13.1.10.2/15.6.7.2) William Nelson Tupper, born in October 1868 in Kalamazoo County, Michigan and died in 1932. He married Viania, she was born in about 1872 and died in 1948. They are both buried in Oak Grove Cemetery, in Comstock Township, Galesburg, Michigan.
The Tupper's were listed in the 1910 Federal Census of Kalamazoo, Kalamazoo County, Michigan, ED# 153, sheet 12A, living in what looks to be the same home (with a separate apartment) with his sister Lorena Carl (see below). In 1910 their household, #272 of 285, listed: "William M.", age 42, (both William and Viania stated that they had been married for 20 years and that this was their first marriage), birthplace Michigan, parents birthplace listed as Michigan, occupation listed as a "Janitor" "at School". "Viania", age 37, stated that she had given birth to two children, one of whom was still living, her birthplace was listed as Michigan, her parents were both listed as born in England. Their son, Howard T., age 17, was still at home, no occupation listed (--note: next door in household #273 of 287 were living: Alonzo D. and Margaret S. Harrison (grandson of Elias Stillwell Harrison), ages 51 and 55 respectively, both born in Michigan, married for 30 years, his father's birthplace listed as Michigan, mother's place of birth listed as New York, her parents listed as both born in New York, his occupation was listed as a laborer in an [unreadable] factory; she stated that she had given birth to two living children; with their son "Irvin J.D.", age 20, no occupation listed).
Ten years later in the 1920 Federal Census, the Tupper's were living in Niles, Berrien County, Michigan, ED# 98, at 122 North State St.: William, age 48, occupation "plumber"; Viania, wife, age 46; Howard T., son, age 27, single, "grocer". Their two children were:

was born on 26 August 1892 in Climax, Michigan and died in June 1969, he is buried in Portage Central Cemetery. Howard served in WW I and first appears living on his own in the 1930 Federal Census of Kalamazoo, ED# 41, living at 2307 East Main St., age 37, occupation "clerk" in a "furniture store". His wife was Martha M., age 34, born in Michigan, they had no children in 1930. Howard had two sons, William and Richard, both were mentioned in his obituary published in the Kalamazoo Gazette on 7 June 1969. Martha M. Tupper was born on 11 September 1895 and died in Portage, Kalamazoo County, Michigan on died on 8 January 1989 (Michigan Death Index 1971-1996).

After his father's death, George was living in the household of his aunt and uncle, John S. and Ellen Harrison in the 1880 Federal Census of Brady Township. In the 1900 Federal Census of Charleston Township, George, age 29, occupation "farm laborer", was living with "Estela", his bride of only three months. Estela, age 20, gave her date of birth as September 1879, and place of birth as Michigan.

The Carl's were listed in the 1920 Federal Census of Kalamazoo City, Kalamazoo County, ED# 174, sheet 16A, address was listed as 1012 Portage St., Elmer, age 53, listed his occupation as a "woodworker" in an "Automobile Co." (the days before plastic!) and Lorena was now 47 years old. In 1930, Kalamazoo, ED# 33, sheet 13A, the Carl's were now living at 625 Portage Rd.: "Elmer E.", was age 62 and was working as a "Janitor" in a Hospital, "Lorena J.", was now age 57.

Henry, age 51, and America, age 44 were both listed in the 1920 Federal Census of 5th Ward, Kalamazoo City, Kalamazoo County, Michigan, ED# 176, sheet 12A, at the same Portage Street address. Henry listed his occupation as a foreman at a grain elevator, their son, Fred, age 27 was single and listed his occupation as a bookkeeper at a grain elevator. Their daughter, Pauline E., was age 16.
America died in 1925, Henry was living with his son, Fred in the 1930 census (see below). Henry lived to be about 76, he was buried on 12 April 1945. They are both buried in Riverview Cemetery in Kalamazoo, Michigan, with their son Allan.
