2. Elizabeth Shirley, was born in April 1837 in England and died on 14 December 1913 in Cook County, Illinois. Elizabeth married Charles Gadey in New York. Charles and Elizabeth were listed in the 1865 State Census of Orleans County, New York, age 36, born in England, occupation "miller", living with his wife Elizabeth, age 31, born in England. Their household listed: sons Charles H., age 7, born in Orleans County; William E., age 3 years 7 months, also born in Orleans County.

Charles was married and widowed sometime between 1875 and 1880. His known daughter from his (1st) marriage was:

"Gady", age at death, 3 months, date of death listed as 29 June 1880 in Cook County (the census was recorded on the 5th of June, she died 24 days later; there is also an Ettie Gadey listed in the Illinois Death Index, age at death 23 years, date of death listed as 28 March 1880, place of death listed as Cook County [possibly her mother]).Charles household in the 1900 Federal Census of the 28th Ward of Chicago, Cook County, Illinois, ED# 850, sheet 9A, enumerated on 7 June, is a little difficult to sort out. He had remarried, his household on Jackson St. listed (the household numbers were crossed out about three times--Charles and his wife both stated that they had been married for 10 years; she stated that she had given birth to 1 living child and immigrated to the U.S. in 1880; Elizabeth, was widowed, and stated that she immigrated to the U.S. in 1860):Gadey, Charles Head Mar 1857 43 New York England England Stationary England

Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Sunday in Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard."
2.2 William A. Gadey, was born in about 1862, in Orleans County, New York and probably died before 1900. There are two marriages recorded in Illinois for William Gadey. A William Gadey married Flora Madeson on 25 July 1882 in Pulaski County and a William Gadey also married Rose B. Renz on 24 February 1897 in Cook County. Olive was born in 1883, so the first marriage seems to match, however, Flora's name is recorded as Julia in the 1900 and 1910 censuses. The 1900 census data indicates that he had one daughter:
2.2.1 Olive Gadey, was born in October 1883 in Illinois.
3. John Shirley, stated in the 1900 Federal Census of Texas Township, Kalamazoo County, Michigan that he was born in England in September 1836 and that he immigrated to the United States in 1840. Hannah M. Russell and John Shirley were married in Kalamazoo at the First Congregational Church on 28 February 1861 (marriage certificate). Hannah died in 1907 and John Shirley died in the spring of 1904 on his farm in Texas Township. John first appears in Michigan in the 1860 Federal Census, working on the farm of Allison Kinne. John and Hannah had nine children (linked from his name). John and Hannah are both buried in Hope Cemetery in Texas Township on 8th Street.
4. Samuel H. Shirley, was born in September 1840 in New York and died in 1919. He married Lydia C. Belcher in 1863. Lydia was born in August 1844 and died in 1917. In the 1860 Federal Census he was single and listed in Kalamazoo, occupation listed as a farm laborer.
